Just a week ago I was spending my last few hours at the Caribbean Reef Club (CRC) in Puerto Morelos Mexico. It was the end to four days/three nights of the first Wet, Wild, and Wicked (WWW) trip to a destination other than Hedonism II.
The idea for the trip came at the end of January during a discussion with Go Classy Tours (GCT). I had been thinking about doing another WWW trip for a while. The two WWW Hedonism II trips that I put together in July and December have grown to 200+ guests. I wasn't really looking to add another large trip because of the amount of effort it takes to organize that many people. But the smaller size (30 rooms) of the CRC meant that the workload would be more manageable.
So a date was selected - the weekend between Mother's Day and Memorial Day. About one-half the CRC rooms were set aside for the trip. A four-day trip was scheduled with additional days available before and after the official trip dates for those that wanted to stay longer. The name Wet, Wild, and Wicked Weekend (WWWW) was coined for this trip.
I was a bit apprehensive at first about getting together a full group with less than a four month lead time. But the group did come together and we filled our rooms with a month or so to spare. Many thanks to the GCT staff for working with the WWWWers in their usual friendly and efficient manner.
The group was comprised of several people from prior WWW Hedonism II trips, some local Phoenix and Arizona friends, and several others who were looking for a fun time. I think that everyone got what they came for.
There are other trip reports and some pictures found here that will provide more details about the resort. I will provide an overview and then highlight those areas that struck me the most.
Overview
The CRC is a clothing optional, couples only, all inclusive resort about a 25 minute ($40) cab ride south of the Cancun airport. There are a total of 30 rooms. Meals are ordered from menus with a wide selection at all meals. There is a large pool and a hot tub. Both of adequate size for the number of guests. Nightly entertainment consists of a DJ playing music for dancing after dinner.
The location of the resort leads to it being fairly isolated. It is located a mile or so from a large ferry terminal where ships to and from Cozumel are loaded and unloaded. There is a small Bed and Breakfast type property near by. A $2 cab ride will take you into town where there are a few places to shop and a couple of places to eat. The CRC office will arrange transportation for you. They will also take care of getting you a cab back to the Cancun airport ($20).
The staff - everyone we encountered seemed truly interested in providing the best service possible. I remember seeing a lot of smiles on all their faces. Having efficient drink service at the pool and hot tub was very welcomed. There was an occasional language problem or misunderstanding, but nothing that couldn't easily be overcome.
The resort - the buildings and grounds were very well kept. Everything was in a compact area which kept the need for long walks to anything to a minimum. But the layout didn't make things appear crowded either. Since we were there with a group, most of the time we wanted to be all together. But for anyone who wanted some time alone, there were many places to do that.
Activities - the most frequent activity I saw was happening was people interacting. Whether this was chatting in the pool or on the pool deck, laying on the beach, sitting in or around the hot tub, gathering for meals, or hanging around the rooms - the feeling of camaraderie among all the guests (not just the WWWWers) added a lot to the vacation. Some of our group arrived a day or two before the rest of us. I was told by them and by some non-WWWers that the energy and dynamics of the resort changed as more of us arrived. It seems fair to say that the CRC is a place where the guests set the level of the resort.
WWWWers - I saved the best for last. It was you guys that made the trip. I am always amazed at how people from all over the country can get together for the first time and have such a fun filled experience. It's fun to watch the group dynamics and see smaller groups interact. I think it's fair to say that several long lasting friendships were formed during the trip. Personally, I consider it a great honor to have been a part of your vacation. Thanks for sharing it with me.
