Rupe & Patty - December, 2009 Wet, Wild, and Wicked ®
12/1/09 - 12/11/09
We have been going to Jamaica for 12 years
and this being our 22nd (?) visit
to Hedo II I thought I'd post a report on how
things have changed or stayed
the same over the years.
In the last few years we have chosen add a
bit of variety so stayed a few
nights at Firefly, which is roughly 3 miles down
the beach from Hedo. It's a
small place with accommodations for maybe 30
people. If you like some quiet
time and a good location to wander the sand then
this is the place. They have
a small nude beach, a bar with a limited menu
for food and drink, so bringing
back a feeling that you are in Jamaica some 30
years ago when things were much
simpler. More info at
http://www.jamaicalink.com/
Anyway, stayed at Firefly 3 nights then
ventured to Hedo on Friday morning in
time for Charlie's omelets. A quick look around
didn't turn up anything
obvious at first but this is Jamaica, what
changes quickly?
Check in was orderly and room key-card soon come mon.
Food was fair to good and breakfast was best as usual.
Evening entertainment was standard fare for
Hedo and the new EC team still
seems to be on a regiment rather than free
flowing. Hopefully this will
improve with time.
Piano bar was jammin' several nights and
quiet several nights. I think lots of
this has to do with the energy level of the
guests in-house any given week.
The nude beach had been recently groomed with
a fresh load of sand so all was
well there. The usual staff was friendly and
smiling.
Security's dealings with cameras on the nude
beach was rather hit and miss.
People who had permission got hassled while at
other times nobody seemed to
notice. It was a free for all at sunset... lots
of great pics to be had so at
least they were consistent here.
There was a fire at the nude beach grill and
while fast thinking subdued the
blaze the shack was out of service for most of
that day so cooking on a
portable BBQ in the sand. (probably due to too
many naked people going to the
prude grill)
Plenty of chairs and pads on the beach this
trip. Plenty of sunshine and the
staff worked like crazy to clean up the seaweed
issue from an earlier storm.
I did notice a broken window along the beach
front rooms, which I'm hearing
had been like that for several weeks already.
Not that a broken window would
be unusual once in awhile but no effort was made
to remove the large shards
still hanging in the open frame at ground level
and some of the pieces were
2 feet long hanging by a thread!
The place is fully wi-fi now so if that's
your thing you are all set. (extra
charges apply)
Charlie's omelet station now has two sinks
with hot water which means there's
no longer a health issue brewing behind the
counter when it's used for a pasta
station. (hopefully they use it instead of
buckets of soupy looking water!)
There is no smoking allowed in the main
dining hall now. OTOH, in an effort to
bring in clean air they have put some tables out
on the pool deck, which has
drawn many people to eat out there. What a great
idea regardless of the
smoking situation!
While we are on the subject of the pool deck,
it would also appear the main
pool is now clothing optional so there's a quiet
place to take in some sun,
swim a few laps, or just have quiet conversation
without having to be on the
beach. It's about time!
Next trip soon come!
