Steve & Sabrina - December, 2007 Wet, Wild, and Wicked ®
Trip Report - Steve and Sabrina
Hedo II November 30 - December 8, 2007
Another exhausting trip with the Winter WWW crew! We made it a
point this year to try to do some new things this year and we were
successful in all that we wanted to do!
Airport
The airport at MoBay is really different. A lot of improvements
being made and I think it will be very nice when completed.
New Adventures
We went on a trip with a group of 13 on Sunday. Included on the
trip was Richard B, former manager of HII. He was a wealth of
interesting information about the island as we rode in the bus enjoying
Mimosa's and beer. First, we went to YS Falls, which was very
nice. Had the place to ourselves for about 1/2 hour until other
people started to roll in. After the falls, we hopped back on the
bus and went to a place to eat called Little Ochie. This
restaurant was located about 1/2 way to Kingston and what a meal we had!
Located on a black beach, fisherman would bring their catches to the
shore where (if you chose) you could select your fish for preparation.
We had fish about 4 different ways, lobster and a curry conch that I am
still thinking about! The drive was long, but interesting.
Saw a side of the island we had never seen before.
We also took a walk off of the resort! I know, not much of an
adventure but it was something that I wanted to do. The beaches
going toward Sandals and Breezes are unbelievably beautiful.
We also did some snorkeling - Steve more than I. We saw a bunch of
rays (that also created shows several times during the week by jumping
high out of the sea). Steve found some strange creature a few
times that he said was a cross between a giant snail and a octopus.
Am going to have to do some research to see if we can figure out what
that was. Steve also invented "Sailsnorkling". He climbed
under a sailboat with his mask and goggles while the sailboat was being
piloted. He said he saw a lot of neat things.
Finally I made it to the gym!
We also made it to the pool at least an hour a day and to the hot tub a
few times for happy hour. Being beach people, this was a major
accomplishment.
Highlights
-
The party on Monday night was a lot of fun! Money was raised by dancing
done for the charity fund. It was a lot of fun and a great way to spend
the evening.
-
Wedding on Wednesday was beautiful.
-
Seeing old friends and meeting a few new friends.
-
The hot tub was always warm and not any issues with being too hot or too
cold.
-
Waterslide is always a nice break in the middle of the day.
-
Food on both Friday's we were there was very good. Lots of lobster.
There was only one night that we did not really find something that we
wanted to eat.
-
The great aim of the water balloon folks on the point. Hit quite a few
lurking boats.
- Heineken Party - lots of fun to meet the Mayor of Hedo.
Things that could be improved
-
Security in our opinion was lacking this year. One room was broken into
during the day while people were in it and items were stolen. Our room
was entered with a key while we were sleeping. She left when asked what
she was doing. Also heard about another woman who had problems with
overly aggressive staff during the day when walking back to the room.
-
Bar services was a bit slow at times, but not a huge problem.
All in all, it was a nice trip. Spent a lot of time with friends,
We did a lot of new things and spent a great week together.
However, there was something a bit different this year. This is
the first time that we have not talked right away about our next trip to
Hedo. Lots of background stuff going on that made us sad and may have
ruined the trips of some.
I don't know if we will go back to Hedo for a while - we are thinking of
trying somewhere new. We will be back one day but think that we
have to step away for longer than a year to regain the magic that drew
us in to Hedo in the first place.
Respect,
