Larry & Amy - June, 2007 Wet, Wild, and Wicked

Here are just a few thoughts on Desire Cabo. These are only my opinions and I could be wrong.  This was the first time that my wife and I have been at a resort like this and we will definitely be going back.  We spoke with numerous people that have been to H2, H3, and Desire and almost to the couple they preferred Desire.  The reasons given for this were numerous but they broke down into the main categories of cleanliness, luxury, and the lack of single males and day-passers.  Read the various trip reports on Denny P’s website and they will corroborate this.  This resort clearly reads its reviews and endeavors to improve based on these comments.

When we arrived at the airport we were accosted by the time-share people that will tell you numerous lies to get you in their cabs etc. They even went so far as to snatch the receipt out of my hand and lying about who they were.  FOLLOW THE ADVICE and EXIT THE AIRPORT immediately.  Fortunately my wife spotted the man in the orange shirt holding the placard with our names on it and away we went.  I would book the transportation to the resort thru the Desire website. I know that it might be $10 dollars more, but why start the vacation in the time-share minefield.

The check in was smooth and our room was ready for us.  The champagne and cool towels in the lobby are a nice touch and the tour that they give you is kind of a guided look at the various areas. I would recommend it, but it does immediately identify you to those in the resort as new arrivals.  Not a problem for us.

I have been conditioned by years of life to awaken early and as my wife and I are fair-skinned I made it a point to acquire one of the palapa beds by the pool early in the morning.  Make no mistake, these can’t be reserved unless you stay in a suite as the employees will remove your stuff after about 30 minutes if you are not on the bed, but we were good enough friends after the first day with a few couples that we traded breakfast times and stayed with the beds until the noon hours.  I enjoy sports and my wife yoga, so she partook of the stretching class and I played volleyball every day except one.  Excellent setting Bryan.  We would then lounge and drink by the pool until the afternoon was done.  We then went to the Jacuzzi Bar for a few hours which ran the gamut from mild to wild.  You will see people enjoying themselves in the palapa beds above the jacuzzi, so if you are offended by this do not go to the resort.  CAVEAT EMPTOR.

Dinner usually occurred for us and the majority of the resort around 9pm. The restaurants are all good, but service in Suki was painfully slow at times.  However we were surrounded with good company (J&M, D&T, J&T, B&S, etc…..) so this was not a problem.  Breakfast is only served at the restaurant near the lobby and was an excellent meal.  I suggest chilaquiles (sic) and their yogurt and fruit was excellent.   For lunch you eat near the pool.  On the subject of tipping, I read a trip report where someone recommended bringing $100 in ones for tipping.  We did this and I thoroughly advise it.  We tipped at mealtime and when we wanted drinks as well, and our service was excellent.  We were usually greeted by name after the first few days and I never had a drink glass go less than half-full at breakfast or lunch.  I think basic human courtesy also helped as I identified the wait staff by name and being Southern I  remembered my pleases and thank yous.  I spoke with couples who did not tip and those who did, and my recommendation is tipping will optimize your service.  We also tipped the EC’s at the end of the trip and I advise you do the same.

The evening theme nights were as fun as the crowd at the resorts makes them. The EC’s do their best but the crowd makes it fun or not.  My wife enjoyed dressing up in the various outfits and she thoroughly enjoyed dancing in the disco. Most guys do not participate in dressing for theme nights although they did for White Night.  I would say that over half of the ladies dressed in something and it ranged from good to excellent.

For those of you who like us were not “in the scene” you really have nothing to fear.  It can go any way you want it too.  I think most nights were mainly couples enjoying themselves although Friday night was decidedly more of a foursome night.  I think that you can find what you are looking for if you are just a couple enjoying alone time or a lifestyler wanting more. There is a whole spectrum of activity and Desire can probably cater to your unique tastes in this area.  There was only one incident of unwanted advances that we observed and that was from a French couple who quite clearly did not understand the rules of the resort. As soon as this was identified to management at the resort they were counseled and the following day disappeared.  The Resort Staff handled this excellently.   The only area where play was allowed was in the beds behind the jacuzzi and around it in the afternoon and at night.  I watched as the staff asked a six-some from the pool to the jacuzzi.

Here is the bottom line in my opinion, Desire is a wonderful place for a couple to get away in a sexually-charged environment and relax and enjoy each other. We did not want to leave and extended a few days.  If you want more you can probably find it. One last opinion, I know it is expensive but everyone that we talked to including ourselves really enjoyed the sensual massage.  Not to be missed.  Have fun!
