April 2007 WWW trip report.
Once again the crazies from the WWW group invaded the shores of Desire. While
there are many stories we can share with everyone there are also many stories
that will be left untold.
This was our 7th trip to Desire and probably the most relaxing.
The service is second to none. The staff will bend over backwards to cater for
all your needs and wants. Better than any cruise ship or resort we've ever
vacationed at.
The food and choices are outstanding. We were there for 8 days and kept trying
new foods & drinks. If we didnt like it- we didnt eat it and ordered
something else.
The beach seems to be coming back and with the addition of another row of
beach beds we only had to get up at 7 a.m. instead of 6 am to get a bed. The
resort has a new set of beach rules and regulations that in my opinion are
just plain stupid and more or less a reaction to an ugly incident that took
place our first day. (see photo of new rules).
Not to expound on what happened, folks, don't try and bully someone to get
their bed. Same folks that started the incident also felt in necessary to read
a book on one of the beds in the hot tub area. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuua. Does
someone really have to spell out what the beds are for? Surly not for reading.
Booked transfers through Royal Tours. The driver was waiting in a big assed
Ford Expedition with a name place card as soon as we exited from getting our
luggage. For a couple bucks more you can request a Lincoln Towncar or the
Expedition or a similar type ride. We don't exactly travel light so one of the
smaller taxis would have been out of the question.
Check in was a breeze, our room was ready, Mike & Barb had our lunch on the
grill. Life is good!
We were in our room within 27 minutes of getting our luggage.
Just a travel tip. If you can possibly travel on a Monday, Tuesday or
Wednesday you'll find navigating the airport in Cancun a breeze. Just don't
talk to a sole while walking through the airport. There are at least a 100 or
so agents offering you a free taxi ride, dinner, cruises etc. They are all
Timeshare people trying sign you for something. Avoid them as you would the
plague.
In the future we will only book garden rooms as neither of us feel the ocean
front room is worth the difference in price.
Never had a problem eating where we wanted or when we wanted. Please keep one
very important matter in the back our your mind. The average worker person
makes around $8 US per day at Desire. You'll find regardless if you are a
tipper or not, the service will always be outstanding. We tip extremely
generous without reservation.
Always ate with a group of 6, 8 or 10 picking up newbees along the way. Dining
has always been an experience for us. Some really funny stories.
Understand, spending a week with Coke with Lime, A/K/A/ the great swami of the
north & Mrs. Coke, Russ & Cheryl (from Fairbanks, Alaska), Mike & Barb from
Ohio, Joe & Michelle from the hinterland (The varifier) and our other new
found friends was an amazing week.
Over 500 mountain folks came from near and far to meet the swami and receive
spiritual advice from him on the shores of Desire. A true sight to behold.
Our 2 visits to Claudia were defiantly one of the highlights or our trip.
Claudia will only be working a 5 day for here on out and considering she only
has 2 appointments a day, one at 10 am and the other at 1. This means she has
10 time slots for any given week. It is suggested you book early on with her
if you want to experience you're own out of body experience with your S/O.
We unfortunately we missed the CoCo Bongo trip on Thursday night due to my
inability to learn what the word moderation means. Way too many electric
lemonades, captain & diet coke, apple martinis and red wine. The 16 couples
that did go had a blast. Next year for sure.
This trip report is comparatively short to others we've posted. Rather than
bore you with stupid details of what time we got up and what we ate for dinner
we'll just let the photos tell most of the stories.
A message to all the folks that are sitting on edge trying to decide to go or
not - do yourself a favor. Book the trip. The Pennsylvania Dutch have a great
saying. Too soon old and too late smart.
Also if you're not a player (swinger) fear not. Even though the resort is
lifestyle friendly, and clothing optional that does NOT mean you have to get
naked nor play. Whatever floats your boat works.
Things the resort needs to address:
Getting an ISP for our laptops. Why the would they dump the service they had
before getting a new provider is a mystery.
Putting an ounce or 2 of fabric softener in the wash. Towels are still like
sandpaper.
Getting more plastic tables & chairs for in front of the 2nd floor rooms. What
good is an ocean front balcony room if you can't sit on the balcony, have a
drink and chat?
Purchasing more beach umbrellas for the pool area.
Better quality entertainment between 7 & 10 PM in the lobby bar area.
Making folks aware that when their dinner is over get on out and into the
lobby bar area. The Suki restaurant only seats 28 and if you want to socialize
move it outside so other folks can have dinner.
The above items are not meant to be critical but rather a few suggestions to
make the resort even better.
It was great seeing all our old friends and meeting the newbies.
