Being my first time in HEDO, or even at an all-inclusive
resort, I'm just curious what are your FAVORITE drinks.

I just don't know what to order when everything is free...

A Ting shandy is very refreshing on a hot afternoon. It is half Red Stripe and half Ting a local soda that is not too sweet. With ice of course. smile

what works for some folks is to ask for what ever is left in the blender when you see the bartender making something that looks interesting. There is usually just enough to get a taste. Enjoy!

Hummingbirds!!!! If I don't have to lift my arms for the day, a Purple Rain is all good...for some reason I can't lift my arms after a few sips!!!

I find Ting to be very close to "Squirt" in the USA.

ymmv

I usually drink by color. Tell the bartender I want to drink Yellow today and I usually get Yellow Birds, which are friggin tasty. Red is pretty tasty too, Purple is REALLY tasty....of course, blue is tasty also....Green is pretty tasty also....you get the idea.

I can mark my days by the drinks I have. I have about 3 to 5 drinks during the day that contain alcohol, but I admit they tend to be large since I bring a travel mug. I am not a heavy drinker though and have never been 'drunk' or even tipsy at Hedo. Most of the time when there is a problem with a guest at Hedo... he or she is drunk. Better to be responsible when your actions might impact other people IMO. Here is my pattern of favorites.

Early Morning: Coffee and lots of it! (Blue Mountain would be better, but the High Mountain served at Hedo is very good)

After Breakfast: 1) Bloody Mary- Hedo Bloody Marys have grown on me a great deal. The dash of PICKAPAPPA that most of the bartenders add to the traditional ingredients makes it different from the ones I might have at home. 2) Appleton Rum and Orange Juice is awesome!

Before Lunch: I have one large (my travel mug!)Hummingbird or Dirty Banana IF and ONLY IF they have bananas at the bar. It has been a near constant source of aggrivation and puzzlement to me why Hedo so often is out of bananas! I have stayed at LOTS of different resorts in JA and have only experienced this as a recurring (rather than random) problem at Hedo II. WHen they use that nasty-ass banana liqueur instead of a real banana I simply cannot drink it! This goes for both the Hummingbird and the Dirty Banana.

With Lunch- Ice Cold Red Stripe!

After Lunch- I serve myself most of the day at the soda fountain by the nude hot tub... and there is never a line or a wait! smile Club Soda over ice with just a tiny splash of ginger ale or 7UP. Sometimes just club soda on ice. This is very refreshing, not too sweet and I just don't want a lot of sugar and alcohol all day.

With Dinner: Landshark or Redstripe or Diet Pepsi. I would have wine with dinner if I didn't find the wine at Hedo to be disgusting.

After dinner: Can't remember... (Just kidding!) Rum Cream on the rocks is the best after dinner drink for me!

This allows me to sample all my favorite drinks at Hedo without ruining my day be consuming too much alcohol or becoming and alcoholic during the week. It also allows me to function in the evening. If I drank the drinks many others do... in the amounts others do... I would never see 10 PM at Hedo! smile
Respect-
Roy

I also enjoy frequent Bloody Marys made at Delroys. Sometimes I have them make it with gin, other times with vodka.

They do NOT have proper ingredients to make a margarita or a gin & tonic, so don't even ask.

I have, at times, brought a few 6 oz bottles of tonic water to have a G&T made with. I've also brought my own Roses lime juice to mix with their gin for a proper GIMLET...

Ting is the way to go for non drinkers like myself. Wife and I also wonder over to the prude beach bar in the morning for a frozen orange juice. We find it relaxing some times to visit the prude bar after all the craziness of the nude beach.

Coruba (tasty dark rum) & Coke (even though it's really Pepsi).

As a first-timer there are a few drinks that you should try.
Try a Dirty Banana
Hummingbird
Rum Cream, straight,on the rocks, or body shots
Purple Rain
Vodka Slush
The most delicious, Bloody Mary
A Red Stripe
Ting and Vodka
Mudslide

These are just a few that you should definitely drink. There are many others.

The Wizard is sooooo right about Margaritas at Hedo (or at any resort in Jamaica that I have visited!)... they just suck! Even if you can find the rare bottle of half decent tequila the other ingredients are suspect at the bar! Myh wife LOVES a good Margarita but has given up on getting one in Jamaica. Stick to the rum drinks, that is always safe. Even the cheaper rums in Jamaica are decent but the local tequila... not so much! smile My wife has settled on Hummingbirds, Dirty Bananas, Landsharks, and Jamaican Sunsets (if that is the one that includes apricot liqueur).

Oh, they haven't mastered the Mojito yet either. Dark rum is not the way to go.

Great list, Roy! I have to try that orange juice and Appleton. I also love rum cream on the rocks after dinner (and sometimes before dinner). Since you mentioned ginger ale, a word of advice to newbies - the ginger ale at Hedo and probably all of Jamaica is apparently made with real ginger and it has a spicy kick to it unlike ginger ale in the States.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't Sprite at all, but I suck up Ting like it's water at Hedo. The best substitute for Ting here in the states is probably Squirt or Fresca, since both are grapefruit sodas, but both fall way short of Ting. Vodka/Ting..very refreshing!

Have you noticed, too, that they're very proud of their Hedo-grown mint? The last time I ordered a Mojito, it came with a BRANCH of mint that looked like it must have been cut with a chainsaw! smile

Dirty bananas!!

If they are out of bananas at Hedo, take a short walk out to the main road, or hire a taxi and head into town. Either way, you are sure to find someone selling bananas. Then you are able to bring the bananas back and have the bartenders make them into dirty bananas.

Roger and Marcy,
For the price we all pay to stay there, some of us multiple times per year, I think we should be sending Mr. Levee's azz out to buy some bananas. There is absolutely NO excuse to be out of something that simple.

It will be a rare day when I want or need a banana drink so badly that I go shopping for them down Manley Blvd ... give up beach time, pay for a taxi both ways, and then deliver them to the bar to have my drinks made! Not a chance! First of all, if bananas are avaiable nearby Hedo should have some without the paying guests having to go get them. Secondly... there are way too many good drinks that don't require a banana to spend even part of my day shopping for Hedo if they won't do it themselves. smile

Oops, I could blame it on any number of things - failing eyesight, onset of dementia, short attention span, so excited at the mention of Ting that I temporarily lost my mind, or all of the above. I apologize. I was saying to myself, "How could anyone think that Ting tasted like Sprint?" LOL

we thought the mojitos weren't too bad! spiced rum & diet, coconut rum & pineapple juice, and vodka tings are daily selections - and a stop at Paulette's for a red stripe on the late afternoon walk back to the room is always good!

white rum mixed with equal parts lemon and orange juice sometimes I add Ting. Late in the day I like to add a splash of grenadine to match the color of the sunset. Very refeshing drink. My wife usually sticks to vodka and Ting.

I'm a purest and drink Vodka and water. Sugar is the enemy and I need to hydrate with all the drinking that I seem to manage. I'll add a splash of grapefruit to this for one or two as the first drinks of the day. OCCASIONALLY, I will have a Bloody for breakfast and/or a Mudslide at sunset. I've been known to participate in a few shots of Soca and Cran at Happy Hour and some Champagne after a hot parade!
