Would be curious to hear what premium brands of hooch they currently have (esp. high-end rum, gin & tequila) and how the assortment of lunch & dinner main dishes at the buffet are these days. It's sounded like the premium liquors have been a bit hit & miss over the past few months.

And the buffet seemed to vary from great to ok every few months, even during Anthony's tenure as head chef. Last time we went (2 years ago), it was during one of the 'ok' food times. There was a reasonable assortment of main dishes, but they tended to be fairly basic (like plain roasted meats and a few common casseroles) and tended to repeat more than in the past.

The sushi assortment at Munasan & the Friday gala seemed to be consistently good over the past handful of years... good assortment and nicely done.

Thanks for any updates!

Food, like women's beauty, is in the eye of the diner/beholder.

Every time I am at H2, I ask people in line at the buffet for all the meals what they think about the food. Invariably their assessments range from 1 to 10, all for the same food. I ask the same at the sit-down restaurants and get the same response.

Making all guests happy with the food all the time is a great, but unachievable, goal.

IMHO!

I want to see some of the local dishes, even though curried goat might not be for everyone.
And I miss the Ackee and saltfish, which I just can't duplicate back home, despite several years of trying.

On the other hand those neon pink midnight buffet sausages they used to have, I'll pass.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

The ackee & saltfish is my #1 favorite breakfast. (As is the endless vat of bacon and carved ham.) I fondly remember Anthony's braised short ribs and various roasted pork or chicken w/ caper cream sauces. Over the years, the grilled fish tended to range from superb to ok. The shepherd's pie and mac & cheese however... even if done well, are soulless dishes IMHO and to be avoided, along with those neon red hot dogs. The calamari was habitually so-so. The grilled lobster ranged from adequate to good (a shame really). The fried shrimp however was routinely excellent. But the all-time favorite (aside from the short ribs) was the asiago, shrimp & caramelized onion pizza from a decade ago.

To take exception (sort of to prove Denny's point) in the old, old days when the report of Shepard's pie came to the nude pool, half the inhabitants would go up for lunch. But that was when the meat portion was very spicy and the potato portion helped quench the fire. The last 10 years or so, it has been so bland that it wasn't worth eating.

My favorite has always been the ham at breakfast. I certainly don't get such good tasting ham at home.

I'll second that. I think Rick is right on target with his comment.

Of course. Everyone has their own opinions. What I was fishing for were some specific observations about the assortment of dishes in the last year or so, like the examples I gave. And I'm always interested in folks' thoughts on the food quality as well, tho that needs to be taken with a grain of salt with some of those shepherd's pie fans. wink

The two lunches and two dinners that I've been to so far had very diverse menus - other than the evening pasta bar, which was at both.
