A friend told me that during her Hedo trip this last week:

Wednesday morning [Dec. 1], she was "throwing [her] breakfast." She and her husband had just tested negative for Covid that morning, so it wasn't the virus.

She wrote: "I was sick with much flowing out the other end until that night. Very tired; slept much of the day. No desire to eat."

Her husband "was ill about midnight Wednesday and was sick without being able to leave the room til late afternoon the following day. Most of a day each lost. Fortunately, it didn't hit us both at the same time, so we could look out for each other. [Q]uite a few people we spoke with either had the same thing or knew people who had. Not sure what caused it. (we don't eat a lot of the same foods) I don't think it was water, or many more people would have become ill."

So she asked me to post on social media [she doesn't] to see if anyone else had this same problem.

Chris

Could still be food poisoning. Just takes a little something that's not been cooked enough, or was prepared on a surface that wasn't pre-cleaned. Only takes a speck.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

We arrived Dec 2 for 2 week trip and heard the same concerns. We were advised to avoid the FISH on the buffet for a day or so .No reports recently of gastrointestinal problems. Fish and seafood has been fantastic !!!

I remember on Denny's Winter WWW trip in 2004, maybe a dozen people got violently ill on Friday night with what appeared to be some sort of food poisoning. That was also early December, so maybe there is some sort of seasonal effect going on?

This is actually quite common at all inclusive resorts. The thing is we never hear about it. We were hit quite hard at another resort on a different island, we were down for a week. When I spoke to the travel company rep on site, he said we were the only ones. On the return shuttle to the airport, at least three other couples had the same issue. On the airplane home, those that we talked to, and had stayed at other resorts, also had this issues. Resorts try to keep this under wraps, it's bad for business otherwise. I applaud Chris's friend for speaking up, it gets the message out there to the resort that you had best take care of the food you serve or you will lose business. Thanks to the original poster for posting this message.
This is actually a consequence of travel to foreign countries,in the tropics, and is not isolated to Jamaica.

On a different note...
In the early days (2000-2010ish), it was common for perhaps 40% of us to get the Hedo crud.... mild upper respiratory issues after 4-5 days. We chalked it up to skank in the AC units, and started to bring little cans of lysol to hose down the AC when we arrived. Seemed to help. (Those old AC blowers were pretty nasty.) smile

One of that group (who got sick) traced it to late nite pizza with mushrooms. This was a non-medical person's opinion from polling the group. FWIW.
