Sitting here on the deck listening to the waves coming in and enjoying a peaceful morning - thought I'd give a little update on NYE. For context, the occupancy went from about 130 to 225-250 for New Years (many of those are checking out today tho). No outsiders were allowed to attend.

Some changes to the traditional Hedo NYE (for those who've been here for NYE before): The theme was the '50's, so 1950 era decorations were all around the pool area and dining room. A cocktail party started on the pool deck at 6:30 (Ja time); dinner followed. First course was served at your table (chilled shrimp and mussel). The tables were numbered with the theory being they would call numbers to go to the buffet for main courses and desert - but I never heard any numbers call (probably wouldn't work anyway) and there was no problem at all getting served at the buffet and easy to social distance. Mask use when not at your table was required and followed as best as I could see (policing masks wasn't my objective for the evening). Dinner was very good and plenty of everything.

Entertainment: '50's era jazz with guest horns were followed by guest singer (I should know who it was as everyone will want to know, but I was too involved in conversation at the table). Then Winston and the team did a great job for the final act before adjourning to the courtyard. The entertainment quality was not compromised at all buy the lower occupancy number - you'd think they were still playing for a 600-700 person audience. Excellent job. As I predicted, I didn't last into the courtyard dancing / welcome in the new year part of the evening. Winston tells me I missed a great a great party tho.

All in all, while the evening was festive it was definitely Covid-restrained. Some of that due to the lower numbers and lower crowd intensity. The staff did an excellent job.

The weather has been excellent. Reasonable temps and humidity and very little rain. Some cooler mornings and a little more mini-wave action but overall perfect.
Happy New Year all!

Hi, CharlieV -- thanks for posting this. I was curious as to what things may have been like this year; been in the doldrums quite a bit lately -- this was the first New Year's I've missed at Hedo since 1997 and it's crushing me.

Question for you: Do you know if the Bare Bottom Bunch were in attendance? I usually spend a good amount of time with Sabina and Scott (who lead that group) and was wondering if they were able to make the trip.

Sounds like you're having a pretty decent time there despite the low occupancy. Be careful and stay safe!

Pretty sure the Bare Bottom gang wasn't here - if they were, they kept an unusually low profile and had only a couple people if any.

Thanks, Charlie. If you can submit your postings as a trip report to me for posting in that section on my web site, a lot more people will see it and appreciate it.

Have a great rest of your stay.

Excellent info - Thanks Charlie & happy New Year! How's the mask use around the nude pool, on the various main walkways & bars? Wondering if it's changed from early November - when there was near-zero mask use except in the few required places, like the lobby & gift shop.

Oh....!! If you have any observations re: the new management, I bet that would be of general interest as well. Enjoy your stay!

Mask use is mixed - unfortunately. Equally disappointing is that social distancing guidelines aren't followed consistently either. Masks aren't required in the pools but folks could do a better job of physical separation. Again, we were only 50% capacity for NYE and now closer to 20-25% - so there's plenty of room. I see the biggest risk areas as the nude pool and piano bar. I haven't been in the nude pool since I got here 5 weeks ago. I'm only in the Piano Bar early while no one is in there. I sit out on the big smoking deck (behind the piano) and have my scotch and cigar and participate "remotely" from there. As I've said here and on FB, you're as safe here as you want to be. Respect.

Thanks Charlie...and to think last year we arrived on the 5th last year. I always enjoy our conversations on the beach and in the dining room. So sorry we won't be there this year. Enjoy your stay my friend.
