JAMAICA TOURIST MEDICAL INSURANCE: I have been in contact today with someone from the visitjamaica.com site that does the Travel Authorizations. I asked for more information about the mandantory travel insurance that is supposed to start Nov 1, TOMORROW. Their response said "Details on the travel insurance has not been finalized. As soon as it is finalized the information will be posted on our website." I can't tell you anything else about it at this time. If you haven't yet been informed about this insurance, see the COVID-19 Travel Info link in the green box on my home page at www.dennyp.com.

The Travel Authorization page now (Nov 1) says that the information on that page is applicable Nov 1-16. Nothing is said about insurance. That might mean that we won't see any details about the insurance until Nov 17. I will let you know if I see something else. Keep checking the COVID-19 travel info page linked to in the green box on www.dennyp.com.

I was reading an article from the Jamaican Information Service recently. I noted that the proposed mandatory insurance would cost $40 US for $100,000 emergency evacuation coverage to be applied for and paid for as part of the Travel Authorization when it comes into effect .

That cost is what is rumored. The final information hasn't yet been published. I asked the staff at visitjamaica.com that administers the Travel Authorization for more details, but they said the final details weren't ready yet. That article is posted on the COVID-19 Travel Information page on my web site.

Denny, do you know of a resource to get this type of insurance even if they don't require it?

You can search the web for "trip insurance". But every policy has different coverages and exclusions that you have to check out to make sure a specific policy is covering what you need.

The Jamaica Travel Authorization web page has been updated to cover the Nov 17-30 dates. I see no references to the Jamaica Cares insurance program or any mention of any additional charge for it. I'll keep alert for any more details. If anyone sees something, please let me know.

Given that the Jamaica Cares Insurance still seems to be a bit up in the air, I guess it would make sense to buy trip insurance just to be on the safe side even if it doesn't explicitly include Covid-related coverage.
