From various postings I've read online, I've seen similar info and also that there are 6 people in quarantine rooms at the resort. Some of the people reportedly became symptomatic and tested positive as soon as they got home, so they most likely flew home and were at the resort while contagious but pre-symptomatic.

I've got a request into the resort for some first-hand information and will share what I hear.

Seems like the stories are flying on the Hedo Facebook page about numbers from 5 to 16 were confirmed. 10 were put in quarantine according to the thread

Denny, you mentioned on the Zoom call Sunday night you were going to contact your resource at Hedo about this. What did you find out? Did you get a reply?

There were multiple cases reported on social media after our trip 10/17-10/24.

I did cover that on the Wednesday night Zoom meeting. I am getting several stories with inconsistent information. Much of it is anecdotal. People heard something from someone else who may have heard it from someone else. Nothing directly from the resort yet. Still trying.

A statement from Hedonism II management that was provided to me indirectly says that there have been 3 confirmed COVID-19 cases since they reopened this summer. If I can get any direct communication from the resort I will share it.

As a reminder, you can access the official resort COVID-19 protocol here.

UPDATE: I received the same information first hand. The email is posted on a link on my Hedonism II Resort main page.

On Joe Canino's Hedo group page there is a post by a woman about her and her husband getting Covid while there. He was hospitalized for a few hours before they left due to the poor conditions. They medivaced home for $18,000.

I think the disconnect between the 3 cases the resort will publicly state and the real # has more to do with guests not notifying the resort if they test positive upon returning. There are many people reporting positive tests on themselves on other boards.

Some more anecdotal + personal input... We were at H2 11/5-11/11. We saw an ambulance drive by the prude beach bar (first time seeing that in 20 years), and heard that there were indeed several positive cases quarantined. The nude pool was packed from Sunday on. I'd say 200 people in the pool & hot tub.. just like old times. Not a mask in sight among the guests. The staff was 100% masked, and great as always.

Why do people think Hedo is a virus free zone? Of course 200 maskless people in the pool will generate cases. Would anyone rationally think otherwise? Ditto for the Piano Bar, Hot Tub, Weedo Lounge and Playroom (if it's open). Not to mention to total disrespect you'd be showing the staff by shouting your drink order without a mask. We use the word "Respect" a lot. . . perhaps it's time to practice it too. The staff is.

This is why I'm not doing my November trip this year (and probably not April). I don't want to add to the problem.
I know the Jamaican economy depends on tourism, but a health crises helps no one.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

I'll be there but I'll be practicing the same Covid hygiene as I do here. Granted, my situation here is different from those going for only 1-2 weeks - I get it; but as I learned from 32 years in the Chemical industry: "Safety First".

You're right on target Charlie. Based upon comments I've seen posted, I think many people think they're 'safe' because Americans were tested negative within 10 days before their arrival. That completely discounts the possibility of contracting it on the flight(s) down and the airports, or within the period between the day they were tested and they departed for Jamaica. My guess is a lot of people either don't really understand the timeline for how this virus works, or they only see it how they want to see it, despite the available information to the contrary.

It's sad enough to see the conditions here, so why in hell would we want to contribute to taking this crap to Jamaica and spread it around?? If people want to go and REALLY comply with the rules, stay safe, and protect themselves and everyone around them, that's probably OK. The reports about conditions like you described, are a recipe for continuing to spread disaster. Just my opinion........

Speaking of safe practices, does anyone think it’s a good idea to conduct a bar crawl off premises? I’m not sure we heard right but is the bar crawl on-site or off? If off, what preventative measures are taken for anyone who leaves the resort and then returns?

What bar crawl are you referring to? If referring to a possible WWW group pub crawl, please post that in the WWW forum. We (Bill) discussed that in our Zoom call today and can discuss more in the WWW forum on the message board.

In general, if you leave the resort to shop, go to dinner someplace, or for any other reason, it is up to you to take precautions that you deem necessary. It is my understanding that cabs will require you to wear masks. You can wear them regardless - if that is what you want to do.

From this morning's Gleaner: http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/lead-stories/20201116/covid-test-jcans-hedo Now Jamaican's visiting Hedo must be tested before they're allowed to check-in. Should close a big gap in inbound testing.

Except that article says that only US visitors from 4 states need testing before arrival. That statement is in conflict with the official Travel Authorization page saying ALL US visitors must be tested.

I emailed the author for a clarification. Conflicting statements like that, make me distrust other "facts" in the article.

I saw that and given that I'm leaving for the resort in two weeks I have my eyes glued to the visitja.com site. It last said that the current rules are in effect thru today - the 16th. We'll see what tomorrow brings. . . .

I'm watching that, too. I have a lot of guests traveling in Dec. I expect the change on the 17th is in regards to the mandatory insurance program that is planned.

I post COVID-19 travel information on my COVID-19 Travel Information page.

And at the end of the article it says that Hedo is in Westmoreland....I think it's in Hanover. Another error?

Chris, you are correct. The parish boundary is a little south of Hedo near Bourbon Beach. My guess was that the author just looked up "Negril". The city limits of Negril are in Westmoreland parish.

I didn't mention that to the author in my email. I figured that part was minor.

To make things even more confusing: Trip Advisor says it's in Westmoreland but the Google Map on the Trip Advisor page seems to show it to be in Hanover.

We were there in early Nov. Saw about a dozen friends there, and most avoided close contact. So far, about half of us/them have tested positive since returning home.

We were there at the same time with about 6 couples. We were not the best at social distancing, we all went in the pool in the afternoon and had group dinners. We did wear masks in lobby, gift shop, etc. but, pretty much no where else. We only saw a few people wearing masks by the pool, beach, piano bar. With the exception of the employees, they were all masked up, unless they were talking in a mic.
All of us tested positive when we got home. Some sicker than others, we all made it thru it.
We all knew the risk, but we figured since we were all tested the risk was minimal. Where did it come from, we will never know. At our time locals were allowed in without tests, some employees go home, others stay at the resort, did somebody catch it on the plane, cab, guest got tested and then caught it after the test. Who knows.
The resort was also very good at sanitation.
Those of us guests did go home to great medical if needed, I pray for the staff and hope they did not get it. Those of us guests that went, it was our choice, the staff need to eat so they need to work.

TooH - I get that you are all adults and understood the risk you were taking for your personal health. The problem is that this is an easily transmittable disease - and while you and the others were unaware that your were infected, you were all spreading to others. . . basically anyone you came in contact with when you were without a mask. . . times 12 for the six couples. Please understand, I'm not lecturing you but I'm hoping to bring some awareness to others reading this. It's called a pandemic for a reason. Yes, you can go to Hedo and have fun - but just like the AIDS situation, you need to play safely. Only with Covid, you have to wear a face condom - aka: mask.
Respect.

I'll add to that........The risk isn't only to you. While the staff are doing everything they can to avoid catching this disease, that protection has limits. They're exposed to guests all day every day. For the guests you claim they knew the risks, they apparently didn't think about, or didn't care, about the staff they were recklessly exposing to this virus. Where's the 'respect' in that? Hedo folks all talk about 'respect' all the time, but actions instead of words are more important when it comes to something like this. Further, you were fortunate that you recovered. What if you hadn't? This also affects not just you...... it also is devastating for everyone who cares about you. Lastly, continuing this sort of behavior and contributing to health problems at Hedo increases the probability the Jamaican government will force them to shut down to control the problem What do you say then to the staff who will have no income and can't support themselves and their families? Where's the respect in that??

Yes we may have been naive, we did test negative before going, and thought we would be safe. With our friends we did not visit each other’s rooms, just partied.
We decided to go, followed all the protocol to get there, and without tourists the staff is unemployed.
Respect, yep we believe in it. We thought we were safe and do not believe we brought it in, but who know about travel, we were masked 100 percent of the time.
The reason for my post was to give a first person account of our experience, so others can make their choices, a lot of other forums are all about ducky’s and bunnies. I did not write this to be ridiculed or praised, it was our experience form oct 30 to nov 7.
As for the staff, we helped them get paid for the week we were there, all guests (exempt non jamacian) had to have negative tests to check in, but a test 9 days out is kind of useless.
Thanks for your thoughts on recovery, we hope that none of the staff caught it during our week and if they did they recover quickly as well as the guests that also got bit.
As for understanding how this fucking COVID can affect others and their family, I understand. While at hedo, I got an emergency phone call a few days before we went home. My father was put on a ventilator and still is, outcome uncertain. And for the trolls that want to rip on me, he lives in a different state and I have not seen him in 9 months.
To say again, we have been to hedo 25 times, love and respect the staff. We thought it would be safe, turned out it was not. If we do not go, hedo will close, however if COVID stays at hedo they will be forced to close. Double edged sword.

TooH - thanks for the response; again, my intent wasn't to lecture but raise awareness for others following this site. Sorry to hear about your father - sending positive vibes your and his way. You're correct, it's a double-edged sword - the trouble is that in this case, it is a sword!

TooH......... I sincerely hope you're OK and have a swift & complete recovery.

I really didn't intend to ridicule or rip into you about anything and I genuinely appreciate the information you provided in your posting. I'm also very sorry about your father and hope he recovers OK. Most of my frustration is with other postings I've read by people who thought everything was great and they 'were willing to take the risk', without fully realizing ALL of the risks involved not only to themselves, but others around them and to the people who care about them.

Again, nothing personal intended and I hope everything goes OK on your end of things.

100% infection rate of the group. Kind of supports the warnings of the ease of infecting others with Covid-19. Wonder if all will self-quarantine for a couple weeks when they get home or if 12 soon becomes 144 etc. Also hope that none required any involvement with the already over-worked hospital staff. But TooHorney did provide a valuable cautionary tale of what guests need to watch for when they visit H2.

No feelings hurt! Just wanted to share our experience and what might happen. We are a hedo family, open and honesty are the best, good or bad. Respect to all.
We cannot wait for our next trip home....hopefully the vaccine works.

Appreciate the info and insights everyone! The infection rate from our personal experience was so wacky that I wondered if it was some crazy aberration. Hearing a few others' similar experiences gives some interesting insight into the unique, and sometimes odd place that H2 is. Not a place that's prone to a social distancing crowd. smile

Hmmm..... Interesting. That last post of mine was done a couple of days ago... not "yesterday at 01:01 AM" Denny, FYI - looks like something's amiss with the timestamp. wink

Weird. It does now to me too. I swear it was amiss earlier today. No worries! This is not one of the world's issues. laugh Hopefully the covid situation resolves itself soon and our friends on the H2 staff all stay healthy!

Edited: Now it's back to 01:01AM..... Sent you an email w/ a screenshot.

A social media post on a Negril forum is that over 100 positive cases have come out of Hedo.

"Insider" states that guests have lied to government health officials about not feeling well to avoid being separated from others

It would be nice to have the source of that information to know where those numbers came from. Over a 5-6 month period? How many negative cases in the same period of time. Any chance of duplicate counting?

Details on the source of the numbers are needed, otherwise this is in the category of a rumor.

Our small group of friends now has 12 people (out of 18) who've tested positive.
Toohorny posted here that all 12 people in their group were positive.
Another member of the Pervs said that 40 of them were positive so far. 2 of those folks are in the 18 of our friends. (I'd guess that group had somewhere around 200 people total.)
Those were all in the same ~2 week timeframe in early November. So assuming those other 2 reports are accurate, and no overlap between Toohorny and the Pervs... that's 62 people.

Those are some pretty alarming numbers Chris, thanks for posting this.

Imagine where we would be if he had ordered the Cthulhu Squid special instead.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.
