Does anyone know if you are allowed to leave the property under the covid rules and regs? We have always enjoyed strolls down the beach past the other resorts. I could see where movement could be restricted, but haven’t read that they are.

Sorry Denny, if it's in the material you referenced, I didn't find an answer to the question of whether Hedo guest can wander off property down the beach past other resorts, bars, restaurants, etc.

All I know is that the Jamaican rules for moving from the resort keep changing...sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. Generally speaking, right now you cannot stay in one hotel and go to another. I would imagine that means you can't go to restaurants if your resort serves food. As for walking on the beach...no clue here.

In that article, there's a flowchart. If I am interpreting it correctly, it appears to state that if you are not determined to require a test upon arrival, then you are permitted to stay at your resort but you are required to remain on that property for the duration of your stay.

That would suggest to me that you could not visit other hotels. But that may depend on what is meant by "remain on property". If you walk along the beach and happen onto another part of the beach that is not technically on Hedo property, does that mean you are not remaining on property? How would this be enforced? Security guards on the beach requesting room card keys for the respective hotel so you could enter that part of the beach?

If anyone has a different interpretation, I'd appreciate reading what that might be.

I really hope this isn't the case. We always go into Negril to the Red Dragon for lunch, I get my hair braided on the beach, shopping at Time's Square. Will let you know when we get there in a couple of weeks.

Rules are changing every few weeks. So they may be different when you are there.

Do you think you can start your trip at one resort/hotel and then move to another either the next day or in a couple of days? We always stay at Traveller's Beach on the first night and then move to Hedo the next day? We thought of trying Grand Lido for 2 or 3 days before moving to Hedo for 5-6 days.

Right now, no. Who knows when that will change, though. It will at some point.

I'll be curious to see if this enforced jamaica style. What about cruises? Are they happening at all?

We have until thanksgiving and typically book one night away mid trip (dont actually check out, but double book for a breather).

From what I read in the Jamaican newspapers, the government is pretty serious about enforcement on Covid related policies.

I haven't heard about the catamaran cruises. If they do happen, they probably aren't stopping at Rick's Cafe.

I have been checking on the TSA & CBP websites, and I am seeing we can now bring ground coffee and spices in our carryon. Seems there was a restriction on that in the past couple of years. Anyone returning recently have problems with any (legal) powdered items in their carryons when coming back into the US?

If we cannot leave the property to do our shopping for our jerk seasonings and coffees to pack in checked bags, I want to know that buying in the airport isn't going to be a waste of money by having it confiscated upon arrival home.

Tourists are Category 2 visitors.

On August 27, the flowchart for Category 2 visitors was changed to indicate that exploring from your resort was permitted within the resilient corridor using certified transportation. So going shopping, having lunch away from Hedo, long beach walks toward Negril, buying stuff for you checked luggage is perfectly ok.

Before Aug 27, you could not leave the resort for 14 days.

Category 2 tourist visitors still cannot stay at more than one resort until after a 14 days stay at the first resort. Still cannot travel outside the resilient corridor.

The other website to monitor is that from the Ministry of Health ( https://www.moh.gov.jm )

There are a lot of "informational" websites that copy stuff from the official Jamaican websites and then fail to keep "their" information up-to-date as there are changes almost every day. Drawing from this thread, the information at traveloffpath.com/ is an example of such a website with out-of-date information.
