There is not a lot of information out there about tipping at Grand Lido. Globally Blue Diamond resorts do not have an official "no tipping" policy, and some reports of their resorts in Mexico and Caribbean encourage tipping, a lot of tipping. Our trip to GLN will be a first for us with a butler, and would love to hear what is appropriate. Before Blue Diamond built Royalton, I think GLN had a no tipping similar to Hedo II. Also Trip Advisor reports are all older than the new re-opening as au natural. Thank you for any input.

When I was there, tipping was happening.

We have been twice to the new Grand Lido Negril, once for 5 days and the second time for a week. You will be assigned two butlers during your stay. You are expected to tip the butlers. We sometimes saw other tipping going on, but it was rare. They give you an envelope for each and you are expected to put the tip in at the end of the trip. We didn't realize that the first time and tipped some as we went along. The second trip we saved it and tipped at the end of the week. I didn't notice any difference in the service between the two trips, so tipping at the end appears to be just fine.

We tipped each butler $100 at the end of the 7 day trip. They seemed happy with that. Keep in mind that they are not private butlers, they are serving many people. If they gave us the option to forego the butlers, we would. We rarely used them. They will make up your room with towel animals, rose petals, and a bubble bath a couple times during your trip (it's a surprise, they don't ask). They did check up now and then, but we're relaxing and usually don't need anything. You can make reservations yourself easier than asking them to do it. They give you a dedicated phone, but we never did carry it around (no pockets, of course).

Thank you Chazo, appreciated you input. The butler thing is a first for us, and I wonder... or wish/hope that the butler shares the tip(s) with others that serve you. I feel good about tipping maids, seeing how hard they have to work. As I have not seen GLN say "no tipping", then an employee will not get in trouble for taking a tip. We will watch and gauge appropriately.

A note on tipping the maid. Unless you hand her the tip, it is most likely that the maid supervisor will be pocketing that tip you leave on the pillow. While the room maid is working on one room at a time, the supervisor will tour all the other rooms and look for that tip.
