Hi - Curious if anyone can give some first-hand insight on how things were since Hedo reopened on July 1st. We're very interested to hear what's different. Guessing they've made some significant changes in the food & bar service. Wonder if there's any effort by staff or guests to minimize gatherings in the pool, at the bars, etc... Also would be nice to know if many/any guests are wearing face masks when among others.
Cheers! smile

I have some clients traveling later this month. I will be asking them for a trip report. I've heard some secondhand reports from early arrivals, but I've also heard that there have already been some changes since then.

I urge everyone to keep in mind that experiences will be different one week to the next. The government has already made changes in their requirements and procedures since July 1.

It was actually crowded? I'm surprised.

Agree with you PP. I don't think it really was crowded, despite that comment. I chatted with our friend in some detail. I think it may have seemed a bit that way, since the fluffs had arrived and congregated on the nude side - so it was much more busy than the prior 5-6 day (which started out with a total of 9 guests). The fluffs reportedly had 100 rooms reserved, but didn't fill them all. So I'd guess maybe 50-60% occupancy.

I love going to Hedo but I am curious about several things on this too.
I have seen the things about masks in pubic, hand sanitizer stations, temps.... but there are other things I dont know about
So no masks at the pool/beach/ocean but what about distancing? And how is getting drinks at the pool bar being handled there is usually a line/wait there
I guess when you have 9 people there it is not a big issue but when you get to 100 rooms it gets bigger.
Has the dining room gotten rid of the large tables where more than 2 people sit together in lieu of smaller tables?

If it is hedo as normal in the pool/beach area I could see the whole resort getting infected in a few days if one person comes down with it while there

I agree with you Boston - The country will do what it has to to balance health and economics (per the Gleaner, the new cases the country gets mostly come from arriving US tourists). Hedo will also do what it has to to balance being able to operate and being safe for staff and guests. Then there's "us" - we can't put it all on Jamaica and Hedo to keep us safe - we have a part to play in this. And as you know, opinions are typically on one or the other extreme. We individually have to balance our enjoyment and our safety and our respect for the staff and fellow guests. I plan on being there but . . . I expect to keep to myself, avoid crowds and basically run under the radar. Which is similar to how I operate there anyway. I'll probably avoid close social contact with anyone not wearing a mask. Your questions are totally valid.

I have 2 couples there now. I asked them for a report. Hopefully they will get back to me. It's like pulling teeth sometimes to get people to provide feedback. Everyone wants information, but very few provide it when they can.

Reminder: trip reports can be emailed to me for posting on my web site. Thanks.

Has anyone gone through any COVID protocol leaving Jamaica? aka taking your temperature at the airport to get on the flight to come back to the states?

We’re flying today and can update after we arrive. As of today Jamaica has two major changes in traveling.
1) You no longer submit your COVID19 test results when you apply for travel authorization. Instead you just need to bring a copy of your test results. It gets checked before boarding your flight. If negative it gets a smiley face stamp.
2)Approved COVID19 tests have expanded from only the PCR nasal swap test to now including antigen tests which are easier and less expensive to get.

This will reduce the stress of having a narrow window to get your test results so you can apply for travel authorization.

Thanks for that update. The updated procedures were posted on the COVID-19 Travel Informaiton page on my web site earlier.

How long did it take for your Travel Authorization to come back after you submitted the information?

I submitted my results on Tuesday and Karin sent hers on Wednesday for our travel on Saturday. We called the Miami Jamaica Tourist Board number 800-233-4582 at noon to check/expedite our approval as we had not received anything. We were told all next day authorizations would be sent soon; indeed we received our approvals by 3:30pm greatly reducing any travel anxiety. They told us the agency was streamlining the approval process starting on October 10.

Tourists still need to get their tests in the 10 day window before travel and still need to apply for travel authorization 5 days before travel. Now they just need to bring a paper copy of their negative test results (pcr or antigen test) and a copy of their travel authorization. Both papers are checked multiple times - airport checkin, at the boarding gate, and upon arrival during the health screening and immigration process.

We used Club Mobay which was invaluable for us as first time visitors. Our guide greeted us, checked our documents and guided us efficiently thru the process. We landed early and we’re sipping on our rum punch cocktails in Club Mobay about 20 minutes later at our official landing time. After filling up our travel mugs with more libations, she took us out to meet our Rocky’s Tours driver. Our driver was delightful giving us a fun, tour guide narration as we careened away thru Montego Bay traffic. Upon discovering it was my birthday and that we were Hedo virgins, pulled over in Lucea to buy us a Red Stripe each and called his brother, a Hedo staff member, to take care of the two fresh virgins he was bringing to the resort. For the rest of the ride, our driver added more salacious color to his descriptions of the countryside and the shenanigans possible at Hedo.

We definitely felt welcomed to our new home. I’ll share more in a trip report as we relied heavily on prior reports to help assure ourselves that we weren’t crazy to goto Hedo during this “time of COVID19.”

James

Thanks for your information. Just a reminder to everyone - the current Jamaica Travel Authorization policies and procedures are always posted in the green box at the top of my COVID-19 Travel Information Page. I've also been posting trip reports and greatly appreciate any that are emailed to me.

Ah! I hadn't thought of that - Maybe I should start using Club Mobay on the way in, instead of just on the way out.
