We were planning on going around August 23-30th but worried there won’t be any couples around our age. We are a m/f couple in our early 30’s.

Anybody been to Kandiland/Brazilian Wonderland/Sambapalooza in the past or going this year?

From what the resort said there will be a lot of singles for this event. They said 50/50 singles to couples. But they did say it is a younger crowd so that’s why we’re interested. Do you think we’ll still get the same ‘hedo Experience’ and will it still be worth it with potentially a lot single men?

Would love to hear your thoughts on if we should stick with it or try a different week... thanks!

Yes, this would be our first time.

I've been going to Hedo a long time and don't ever remember seeing a situation where half the guest population was single.

I would recommend staying with your scheduled dates. Your experience at Hedo will be what you make it, in over 15 trips we have never encountered a 50/50 couples be singles always more couples and various ages. Be friendly and open with the people you meet, make friends with the staff they are what continues to draw us back home.

If you have room in your luggage pack a few gifts for the staff members, flip flops, sports related t-shirts, etc, remember there is a no tipping policy at Hedo.

I certainly agree with that. Put aside any expectations or 'requirements' you may have, and just go experience it for yourself.

Back in the early 80's, Hedo was primarily for singles [my opinion]. It could have been 50% singles and 50% couples. Or the single percentage could have even been higher.

This was back in the days when the prude beach was where everybody hung out.

But over the years, couples got the word about Hedo, and today it is mainly couples.

Yeah, well, I was there in those years too and don't remember it being that way...... just my opinion / observation, but I still don't recall ever seeing a situation where it was roughly 50% singles.

Before 1997 = Vinnies and Wallys as terms for some single men.

Chris I know that but can you narrow down the year those names came into play.

I might mention that the Club Med chain started out as a singles destination, but have now mostly moved over to couples and families. This has happened around the world, and I don't know of any place that is really just for singles anymore.

Wish I could narrow it down for you re: Vinnie & Wally...have no clue. Those labels were part of the Hedo culture in the 1990s at least. I wasn't part of the nude beach crowd until 1988/9 or so even though I started going in 1985.

I absolutely remember when it was more evenly split between singles and couples late 80's early 90's. Problem is that we all aged and got married or coupled up. I think Chris can quote the gradual increase in the average age of the guests over the years. Lots of us met our husbands/wives at Hedo.

Agree with the comments above. Since 2000, the most single guests we've noticed has been around 20%. It's certainly possible, but we haven't seen anything remotely like 50% in 40-some trips. I'll echo Denny's comment re: age too.... It seems that age is a very minor factor in how most guests interact at Hedo.... very different than other resorts. The guests in general have been so sociable and outgoing, that attitude seems to matter much more than age. One funny anecdote for us was when we met a 'young' couple (30s) at Hedo year ago, then several years later met their parents there. The parents were a riot - more fun even than their kids. Enjoy!
