Starting in 2021, some rooms currently considered GVN will now be considered GVR for pricing. GVN will consist of the H-block rooms plus the 2106-2210 rooms. The 2 buildings across the road from the spa will be priced as GVR rooms in 2021.

I also have 2021 rates and will begin quoting them on Monday 2/10. If you have already submitted a quote for 2021, no need to resubmit. I have them saved. If I don't get you the 2021 quote by Fri 2/14, please let me know. Rate increases are generally 3%-5% over 2020.

I know GVN is Gardenview Nude but what is GVR?

Garden View Regular - the resort is moving to this from Garden View Prude since the "prude" side is not prude anymore and now some of these rooms are on the nude side.

With so many new room categories and the new nomenclature, it's hard to keep track of what is where. Thanks for the update, Denny.

At one time there were 14 room categories, not there are only 12. That is still a lot.

Back in the old days, I think there were only four categories. Boy, oh boy, I sure do love our nude beach, 2nd floor balcony room, whatever it's called now! LOL

Yes, back in the 90s, there were indeed only 4 categories. Your balcony room is the Ocean View Nude Premium room. All of those in that category are on the upper floor. (There used to be one on the lower floor, but it was converted to a Jacuzzi Terrace Premium room.

I guess they could always add more room categories. Isn't there an unofficial haunted room on the prude side? (I bet they hear funny noises at night - moans, chains rattling. Whips.)

Cool info, I've always really liked the rooms across from the Spa, it's a good central location! Glad to hear they will be a little less expensive in the future.

Keep in mind that when you book a garden view regular room starting in 2021, you can only request those blocks. You could get assigned to someplace on the current gvr side. Specific room locations aren't assigned until check-in.

In the 1980s the room categories was two: beach or garden.

In the 1980s, my recollection is that all rooms were identical and you never knew what you were going to get till you arrived (nude/prude/garden or beach), and then you could be asked to be moved to another section if a room was open there.

Early enough in the '80's ('80-83?) the nude side's beach wasn't like it is now anyway. . . trees and rocks, no pool, no "bar" (just a self serve hut) and no grill. So being on the "nude" side didn't have the same appeal as it does now. Just some ancient history. . . from one of the ancients

I was also there in ’83 and agree with everything Charlie said, with one small exception; the self-serve bar-hut wasn’t there yet then.

All the rooms were the same and you were assigned a room at check in, either at the nude side or prude side and you didn’t get a choice. If you were solo, you may be assigned a same-sex roommate during your visit.

The nude ‘beach’ was pretty stark and rocky and not at all like it is now. Later there was major work to reduce the rock, truck in sand, and build the hook.

The ice at the bars was in blocks and the bartenders used an ice pick to chip ice for each drink made. All beer / soda was in bottles and not very cold. The only bar on the beach anywhere was where the hammock tree is now, located near where the current prude grill / Flame is. If was a simple unfinished wood bar with a few benches. That’s where I met Delroy on the first afternoon of my first trip.

Back in the 80's there was only two catorgories and you can always talk your way upto a oceanview nude side.

Back in the 80's when I arrived as a single, I asked for a room on the nude side. None were available, so they assigned me to a room on the prude side.
This room was closest to the disco. So close, not only did you hear the disco, but you could feel the vibrations from the disco.

So the next day, I went back to the lobby and again asked for a room on the nude side. Still none available, so they assigned me to another room on the prude side.
This room was way down the beach on the prude side, and when I got there and opened the door, it was obvious that 2 guys were already in the room.

So I went back to the lobby again and told them that room was already full. [Remember, they were only using paper to keep track of room assignments].

This time they assigned me to a room on the nude side (hooray). So I go down to that room.
As I approached it, the maid was cleaning it, and the door was open. Looking in, I could see a pair of high heels. This is going to be good I thought!.

But the maid says 'What are you doing here?' I said this was the room I was assigned.
She shook her head and said 'Oh no it isn't'.

So I had to go back to the lobby [again], where they finally assigned me a room on the nude side which only had one guy already in it.

what year was the nude pool built?

Late 90's?

The nude pool complex was definitely in place (and fairly new) by 1998. Can't say exactly when unless I did up my old photos. In 2002 the resort added the prude pool complex.

It was definitely not there in 1994.
I would guess 1995. But the only thing I really remember was the 4 hot tubs in the woods, while the regular hot tub was off limits during the construction.

It seemed like only one of the 4 hot tubs was even warm.

We were married there in November 95 and the nude pool was not there then.

I think it may have been in late 97 or early 98. I did several trips in that timeframe and can't recall exactly. Perhaps some of the old trip report on my web site will have a reference.

It's funny how our memory forgets details & dates.

Cindy's first trip was Oct. 1997. She believes that all of pool complex was there on her first trip as she doesn't remember it not ever being there. Robert's Grill was definitely there. We so miss Robert! And, Shanique, too. Grill food has been so up and down since they left.
