Thanks for the link! I just put it on my FB page and donated. I'm worried that the mgmt is shooting too low for only $20K. They are almost there now. And with about 500 employees, that's only $40 each averaged out.

Wow, 500 staff? To run Hedo? I had no idea. We must be a messy bunch of guests. Help that many people and you are also helping the local economy.

If you prefer to do contributions (in private) to individuals from the resort, I've been using xoom.com (as opposed to Zoom!). Xoom is a partner with PayPal and you have the option of setting up your account with your PayPal credentials (makes me feel safer). It does require you can contact the target as you need to know: full legal name, their address, phone number, (optional) e-mail address, their bank name, branch name, account number, if it's a savings or checking acct, and their TRN (Taxpayer number). The service charge is between 2.99 - 4.99 (depending on if you do a transfer from your bank acct or via a credit card (my choice). They show the exchange rate they use and today and it's pretty close to the rate you see online (i.e.: 133JMD vs 135JM D online). So if you're sending a small amount I wouldn't do this but if you're doing $50 it's gonna cost you net 55; $100 will cost you 105. . . 200 = 205. An alternative if you want to make sure the individuals you're particularly interested in get it directly (and probably more quickly).
There are other options but giving my bank info for wire transfers to Ja feels risky to me.

There should be other ways. Jamaicans working in the U.S. send money back home all the time.
Is Western Union a thing over there?

Yes, Western Union and other money transfer services work down there too - Most caribbean workers who send money home either give the WU office the paycheck or cash to wire down. I wanted to do the transaction safely and online. the Xoom / PayPal connection + having PayPal connected to a credit card and not a bank account directly gives me the financial protection of isolating my bank info from unsavory players. One of my folks got the money next day and they provided updates (e-mail or text) to the recipient to let them know progress of the transaction. And I could do it all from my keyboard - no need to go out. BTW, I have no connection with Xoom other than as a new and (so far) happy customer. Respect mon.
