I did use the new electronic form for Jamaican immigration last month. Bottom line is that it hasn't really been fully integrated into their processes...……….. yet.

My comments here are based upon my experience last month, so perhaps things may have changed since then or others visiting may have had a different experience, but here's what I saw.

I still needed to fill out the paper form. The reason for that, is that Immigration is doing a quick pre-check of people to make sure they've got their documents in order well before they approach the electronic kiosks or the traditional immigration desk. Where the electronic form kicks in, is when you use the electronic kiosk. If you've used the electronic form online, all your information is pre-loaded and comes up as soon as you present your passport to the machine. At that point, it proceeds directly to printing out your entry document and you're on your way. With that in hand, you simply show it to the official when you exit the area and you're done.

I do understand why they are doing a pre-check of folks before they get to the kiosks, so things don't jam up there and slow things down if people don't have their passport in hand and have their stuff ready for processing. Doing that check does slow things down somewhat, but it looked to me like they were doing everything possible to expedite the process.

Overall, it did same me some time once I got to the kiosk area and I was happy with it. I think it's a good change.

Worked like a charm for us this past Saturday. Our online forms pulled up with our passports. We used Club Mobay as well

Does that mean the kiosks were working? What was the approximate wait time for processing? Thanks.

When I went through last month, the kiosks were all working well. The 'processing time' once I presented my passport to the kiosk until I had an entry voucher in my hand was seconds. Once I had the piece of paper, there really weren't any other wickets other than to wait for my turn to hand it to an immigration official. That was my experience anyway...….

In my experience, if you are being escorted by a Club MoBay guide, then you can bypass that pre-check which you did even when the paper document was the only way to get processed.

Lyle, what do you give to the customs folks if you have given up all your kiosk-printed paperwork to the immigration folks.

So, is there a real reason to use Club MoBay for arrivals?

lets you bypass the pre-check and have a dedicated line for customs and a quick drink/food in the arrival lounge is about all of the fast track that is left.

Sorry...…… you hand the kiosk generated form to the immigration official to look at, then retain it to show customs when you get there. You actually retain the document, which is actually your immigration visitor's visa, when you depart the customs area. That document in your possession is the only actual proof you have that you're in the country legally...……… my understanding anyway.

I guess my bottom-line question would be, does this dependably eliminate the need for ClubMobay arrival?

Use of Club Mobay for arrival will help if you arrive at on a busy day and time. If your usual experience in arrivals hall is long lines and mayhem then get Club Mobay. I suspect until people get used to the kiosk concept, the normal arrivals area may be "exciting" during high season and after 11Am (and on cruise ship days).

NO, not at this time. Use of the kiosks AND the online immigration form haven't been fully integrated into the processes at the airport yet. What they haven't got yet, is a way to reliably filter out the people who are squared away and ready to go to the kiosks, and the folks who aren't ready for immigration yet and don't have their stuff together.

As a result, everyone still needs to fill out the paper form for immigration and the immigration folks are taking a quick look at those while you're standing in line to make sure you've got your stuff together for the kiosk, or sending folks off to the regular line or to someplace to complete their paperwork. That sorting process is the chokepoint right now that slows things down.

If you have Club MoBay, you bypass all of that and will go right to the kiosk or to the short line for regular immigration, depending upon your situation.

Make sense?

So if you have completed the form on line you go straight to the immigration desk? You don't need to go the the kiosk?

You can do either. Probably quicker to do the kiosk because it avoids the potentially long line for the traditional immigration screening.

Thank you. That definitely helps clarify. We view ClubMobay as something of an insurance policy and so far, well worth the gamble.

If you don't want to risk long lines due to multiple arriving flights when you land, etc. ClubMobay can ease that concern for you, regardless of the kiosks or other changes to the immigration processes.

Is there a link to this form anywhere, I see many references to it but can't find a link, likely operator error on my part, but if someone could steer me to a link it would be helpful. Thanks

I agree with Lyle, do the kiosk thing...even though it's possibly the second of 3 lines you'll stand in to get through immigration. But when coming into Jamaica, we noticed that the immigration folks herded incoming people arbitrarily so you may have no control which line they send you to. The only control is that if you did the kiosk then the last line to see an actual immigration officer was shorter/faster.

We just got back and did the on line form. When we arrived in the hall outside the Immigration Hall, there was the usual line checking forms. We walked past that and just said we did it online. We saw a sign in the hall that said if you did it online to follow these signs. That was the only sign we saw! We were directed to the paper forms line. Both kiosk and paper forms lines were pretty long. The immigration agent pulled up our online forms and stamped our passports. We were in line about 15 minutes-long for us. At Customs the agent seemed annoyed we did not have a piece of paper, but when we told her we did it on line, she pulled up our information. Perhaps at some point they will have a separate line for us online folks. Maybe at some point this will work like Global Entry works when we return to the US.

I got in at 1:00 last saturday, went the kiosk route, only took 45 min total from plane to bus. I don't see the on line form saving much time (yet).

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

I filled one out about a week in advance also - I also sent in a e-mail to the PICA people asking if the e form would work with my >90 day stay - they never responded, but it did work. The immigration officer told me I could throw-out my paper form smile Now, when it comes time for me to get my "Passport Extension" at the office in Mobay that allows me to stay > 90 days, I may get another story. . . time will tell.

The online form worked well yesterday and I do think it saves some time on arrival; maybe not a lot, but some. One thing folks should remember is that the paper form is ALSO your Customs declaration, so it’s still required. Just because you fill out the online form doesn’t mean you can avoid filling out the paper form.

I did the online form and didn't have to show the paper form at customs. I handed my passport to the customs agent, they looked it up on their computer and waved me through in about 15 seconds.

Lyle, we had the same experience as Denny. Agents at Immigration and Customs each called in up on their computer. No paper involved and passports are now stamped again.

The point is...what we all know, "your mileage may vary". Everyone of us who have been more than 3 times, understand the lack of consistency in Jamaica...on any subject. Everyone have a wonderful day!!

December 6th late afternoon with our turn to come up to the agent, we were told the computers were down, so they couldn't find our online C5, handed us the paper form and told us to fill it out right there, making those behind us wait. We would have filled it out while waiting in line if told, but that's Jamaica.

Upon arrival we wasted about 15 minutes as well. The long walk to customs slowed and a line formed. We could see the kiosks ahead and after slowly coming up to them a helper noticed we didn't have the paper C5, asked, and we said we did it online, so she said to go around. Should have been said earlier or signage put up, but that is Jamaica.... yet we go again and again, hehe

Sunbob, sounds like another reason to always make sure you have the paper one filled out while on the plane...sigh! When I was there in November, I had to stand in 3 lines. One for acknowledgement of my form, and then one for the kiosk, and then the immigration officer line. If I had done it online, I would've had the much longer non-kiosk line. Always a crap shoot, though, right?

That long walk is to immigration processing. The walk to customs from luggage reclaim is short as is the processing time.
