I can't remember (and perhaps it's changed anyway), is the Rum Cream in the Hedo shop cheaper than at the Airport duty free, and how does the selection compare?
This makes a difference in how I pack my suitcase.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

We bring Rum Cream home every trip, it has always been cheaper with more selections at the airport duty free, and they will package it for you as well.

I always buy it at the airport -- even if the duty free shop at the airport is more expensive, I would NEVER pack a bottle in my suitcase. Too great a chance for breakage (even if you think you've packed it well, I'm confident in the ability of the airport luggage thugs to invent new and creative ways to find it to break)

Speaking of airport BS ...A couple of years ago I am at the Sangster Duty Free shop purchasing my Rum Cream and I request a tamper proof bag so I can carry my rum home to Canada via Toronto without being forced to take my bottle out of its protective packaging and squeeze it into my suitcase causing my Happy Face grinder from the Hedo giftshop to roll down the hall past security. Anyways... I think I have finally beat the system and the authorities in Toronto remove my rum from the bag that says " do not open" place it under a machine that informs them that yes, my rum is in a bottle made of glass. I look at the over zealous individual and tell her my luggage has already be checked through and my rum bag is no longer 'tamper proof'. She and her male co worker wave me on with sneers on their faces.

I did get to keep my rum cream though. I prefer Wrey and Nephew or Rum Bar , its cheaper and it tastes better in my opinion , than Appletons.

Unfortunately, because I don't have a direct flight I HAVE to put the bottles in the suitcase at my next stop: Trying to do that as you are heading to the next flight, in a crowded transit area, stuff falling out of the case - big pain in the ass.

P.S. Toronto International is now the worse airport in Canada. Bad layout, rude employees, and long long lines.

Then it sounds like you've answered your own question, PP! If they have to go in your check-in, then you can control how they are packed if you buy at the Hedo boutique (I always bring lots of bubble wrap and plastic for the purpose).

What you say?! Rude in Toronto? Unheard of for Canadians...what happened, are they US Immigrants? Grin!

I am going to have another go at asking for a tamper proof plastic bag for my foam wrapped rum cream I will purchase at the Sangster airport just to see if I can get my rum through the most horrible Toronto Pearson airport without theoretically having to be asked to put it in my suitcase or hand it over to the rude airport employee.

It is stupid though: You are already inside security and you step out of customs and into the domestic terminal, where they are selling duty free...

Yes, there is at the Sangster airport in Montego Bay. Super cheap rum prices too ! I got a litre of coconut rum for a ridiculous price.
