The resort water sports department says they are allowing divers to bring hawaiian slings to kill lion fish. I'm not sure about snorkelers.

Make sure not to pack them in your carry-on.

I'm guessing they're not terribly welcome in The Romp Room, either.

It's not generally accepted to kill snorkelers. wink Snark aside... Over the past few years, the slings on the dive boat have been available for use by divers who are trained in their use.

The last couple trips I have brought my sling and speared lion fish on my dives, I also bing a special lion fish bag to hold the catch....even if they are dead they can still sting you. Trust me, it hurts!
I have not seen slings on the boat, maybe they have them now. I learned how to fire it in my back yard with a cardboard target...sounds cheesy, but I did not to learn underwater.
The first ones we get we clean (dive staff taught us how to do it safely) and have the nude grill cook it for us. It is excellent. After that we give the fish to employees or security. We figure that we have more food at hedo than we can eat, and they need to feed their families.
Although I do enjoy spearing, if I never see another one of this invasive fish again on a dive again in Jamaica I would be thrilled.
We do not think the nude grill will cook a snorkeler. smile

Last month we spent a day with friends on Roatan. For lunch we went to the Lionfish grill.

Unfortunately the owner told me he was out of lionfish, as they sell out as quickly as he can get them.

Ron has been bringing his sling for years and speaing the fish. They are amazingly delicious. However, we were told (quite a while ago, so this may be new) that the grills would not cook them, we had to bring them up top for the chef to prepare, if we can get them done at the grilll, YAY!

I usually get Lionfish at Office of Nature on Bloody Bay - when they can get them. Outstanding dish - again, if they can get it. You may be able to order it ahead of time from Rasta Neil (where Fire Man used to be before he moved to Boardwalk).

Yes, the last couple trips they grilled them up for us. Years ago we used to buy fish from the locals and had them grill them, but we were told they no longer could do it. I do not know if policy changed or if we got lucky.

Last week on Roatan with friends, they took us to the Lionfish Grill there.

Unfortunately the owner told me he couldn't get enough to offer very often.

I can now confirm the nude beach grill will grill lionfish for you, they MUST be cleaned and ready to go on the grill.
