I'll be heading to Hedo my first time this upcoming labor day 2019. I'm a little nervous as usual, but excited as well. I'm 38, easy going, social after a few drinks (shy at first lol) and fit/take care of myself. Any tips or advice you could provide? Are most couples or singles chill and welcoming? Just don't want to be by myself sipping Titos and soda all weekend at the bar or pool.

Also do you all have any advice for getting from Montego Bay to Negril? The rep on the phone said you have either a bus or private car service as your options.

Bus -- Around 2 hours and is on it's own schedule as to when it will pick you up from the airport so you may have to wait a while. Also it stops frequently to drop others off.
(Edited by DennyP to remove prices which the message board rules ask not be posted) .

Private Car Service -- (Edited by DennyP to remove prices which the message board rules ask not be posted) . Gets you to the resort in Negril in 1h 15m, Also no frequent stop and picks you up on time.

Any advice on which you would pick? Thanks.

I usually take the bus. You see much more from the windows, and it always feels like the start of the vacation to me.

The bus is prompt leaving the airport (the longest I've waited is a half hour). You make a few stops (one for beer), but they don't stay long. It can be worth it if you've never seen the country side.

They want you to leave the resort at least 5 hours before your plane takes off, so if you have a morning flight take the taxi back, or prepare to get up early.

Also if the bus: I tip $5 (U.S.) to the driver, and $1 to who ever handles the bags.

Take lots of small bills, everyone accepts them, but few can make change.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

Sun Holidays has a non stop to Hedo about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Hour and a half if they stop for a pee/drink break.. Check with your TA or in the arrival hall at MB. We use them. You may have to wait, but usually not more than 15 or 20 minutes. Denny has a tips for singles on this site. It should answer you questions

There's a link on my Quote Request page where you can purchase transfers if you didn't purchase your room through my agency - 2 options provided.

The taxi and the bus give you the same view. If you have money to burn and want to start your vacation 1/2 hour faster, take the taxi (I prebook Linley Grant--aka Mr. Reasonable--at linleygrant@yahoo.com as a taxi driver). If you want to meet a person or two on the bus who MAY also be going to Hedo, take the bus. The bus is more of a cultural experience. You can also fly to Negril (17 min. on tiny plane) with TimAir.

Having fun at Hedo as a single male, like having fun as anyone, takes social skills. If you have problems at home communicating with strangers, then Hedo may or may not challenge you. Sometimes you just groove with a group/person, sometimes not so much. But if you don't shoot, you don't score.

I hire Linley as well -- he's terrific! You can also book through his new web site:

I use this service: http://luxuriouscaribtoursjamaica.com for about 5 years now. Their price is (Edited by DennyP to remove prices which the message board rules ask not be posted) one way and that includes a drink (beer, soda, water) and they will stop if you need supplies. The taxi driver can be very informative if that interests you.

To my knowledge, Sun Holidays is a shared service that might stop at other resorts on both ways and there might be a delay in leaving the airport. They will pick you up for your return to MoBay some 4 hours (maybe more) before your flight.

Sun Holiday has both shared and non-shared service. Additionally some agency contracts with them are for shared service that is also non-stop.

Oh, I don't agree Chris. In a taxi all you see are people's (and goats) butts going by. The bigger windows and extra height really lets you get a good look at what is around, like that truck you are about to hit. shocked

I say take the bus. We've met people on the bus who we have spent most of the vacation with, talking and having fun who are good friends to this day. Key here is right outside of the airport doors on your way to the bus there is a bar. Grab 5-6 Red Stripes and (make sure you have a bottle opener in you bag) offer other people on the bus a beer. Nice hot weather, everyone wants to get the party started...cold Red Stripe - you'll make some friends fast. Who knows, later at dinner when you're wandering around looking for a seat, at least you'll have a few friendly faces to sit with. The other 'go to move' for a single guy is to offer to grab people a drink on your way to the pool bar. Drop them off with a smile and keep moving - the wife will remember you, the husband will appreciate the gesture. All good.

Risu has some excellent advice! A seatbelt or lighter works OK as a bottle opener on the bus, if you're handy. Handing out cold beers is a sure-fire way to make friends, for sure.
