It has been awhile since we have posted on Denny's board. Still have been visiting this board and reading about the upgrades. During our last visit to Hedo II last October, 2013 during the International Delights Group's visit. My wife & I won the 5 free days during the repeators party with 14 past visits. My wife & I thought this was great as we would like to get away for a few days during our miserable Indiana winters in either January, February or March. Or so we thought! When we tried to use our "so called" 5 free days we were informed that the only way we could use our 5 free days/nights were to purchase 5 additional days at "rack rates" plus an additional $50.00/pp resort fee per day. That meant #1. We would have to take off for 10 days which we couldn't get away for that length of time while the kids were in school. #2. It would just be 20% cheaper to purchase 10 days directly from DennyP or any of the travel agents that handle Hedo II than to take the 5 free days (plus $50.00/pp per day resort fees) and 5 additional nights at rack rates. How misleading and what a ripoff!!! To say the least we've were very disappointed!
We have overlooked poor service, bad food, mold spores, no hot water and several little inconveniences over the years but to out and out mislead us in such a way is just the last straw in our opinion! We have created wonderful relationships over the years with several "1st week of April" and "International Delight" friends and had planned on several special evenings coming up this October but we have decided enough is enough and not go to Jamaica this year! We refuse to be treated in such a misleading way. Currently trying to talk our group into going somewhere else next fall that will treat us in an honest fashion & hopefully find a better value for our money.
We wrote a letter to General Manager Kevin Levee twice regarding this issue with no response. We tried using our 5 days for January, February, March & first week of April availability and all dates required us to purchase an additional 5 extra days at rack rates. Of course the certificate for the 5 free days is supposed to be good for up to one year. Nowhere does it say we must purchase 5 additional days at "rack rates". Any ideas out there in dealing with this??

We won the five-days thing a few years ago (maybe five years ago?), and had to pay the $50/day fee (don't remember if it was exactly $50, but something like that), but we were NOT required to buy five additional days! We did buy two additional days to round out our week, but we bought them from Go Classy, at their rates.

I agree with you that this new set of rules is crazy. I would have just thrown away the coupon and booked through Denny.

I just booked someone for only their 5 free nights from the repeater party - no problem.

We won the five free nights last year and booked a trip to H2 in the spring. We filled out the week (8 nights) and we booked through Denny without any problems. It couldn't have been easier.

The additional $50 per night kind of sucks but it is still a very good deal.

InHedo - Sounds like you need to book thru Denny. Maybe you got some incorrect info from the front desk folks... or whoever you talked to at Hedo. Maybe this is another example of poor front of house service (?). Sunshine & Lorna are the bright stars there. The other folks haven't impressed us over the past few years. wink

When we got 3 free nights for repeat-repeat last year.... we paid $50 per night, and got additional days at the usual prevailing discounted TA rate... not rack rates.

I can echo the others posts...we won in April 2013, used the 5 nights (it was a 5 night trip only) for our March 2014 trip, booked it no problem (went during the Hedo Amigos week, St. Patrick's...was packed) and paid the $250 ($25pp/pd) fee when we checked in.

There's been a $25 per person / per day service charge on 'free' days won during the repeater's party for a long time, so there's nothing new about that. I've cashed those in several times and have never heard of any requirement to book an equivalent number of paid nights in conjunction with the 'free' nights. I know some people complain about the service charge, but I figure $25 per night is nothing compared to the full cost of the room if I were paying for it.

Anyone complaining about the service charge has the option of refusing the award.

And through me, any OPTIONAL paid nights are done at the lowest rate that applies to those free dates. And with me, that will always be less than the rack rates.

Denny......
We stayed 8 night in March and are thinking
of booking 6 nights in November so we get (3) free nights. What will we have to pay?
Will there be extra Fees?

I don't do quotes on the message board. Please use the link in the signature area below to request a quote. When doing so, please provide your March travel dates. There are no additional fees for the 14+3 promotion. Thanks for the interest.

Those 3 free will cost $150...? (Assuming they use that same $50/nite... wasn't the case last time we did 14 years ago..) And the other nites will be at the usual best TA rate that Denny provides. smile

Denny - For general awareness, does the $50/nite apply for the buy 14 deal too?

Not sure if you are referring to the 14+3 promotion. If so, please see my answer in the prior post.

Keep in mind that for any award check the award voucher. It's not just the 5 night repeater voucher that has the $25pp service fee. The 3 night repeater voucher, awards given out at group parties and special events like the Halloween Party winners will also have a service fee. The resort can change the fee at any time and/or apply it to any other circumstance.\

They do NOT apply the fee for any letters/vouchers that are compensatory in nature.

I've never paid anything for the buy 14, get 3 free days, and I use it every year. I have had to pay the $25/p/p/p/n fee for free days won at the repeater party.

What's interesting to me is the change in policy on how they are giving out the 3 or 5 free days at the repeater parties.

In the old days if you were traveling with a sig other or spouse, they got the same free days you got it regardless of how many times the spousal unit had been...now only you get the free days. But if a couple has the same number, then they both get the free days.

I do think that's fairer...but it's still a loss from the old days. Granted, I'm still grateful the hotel gives out any at all.

Chris

I also recall that the repeat winner prize of 3 free days was the number of times since the last time you won the contest. This month the rule was described as the number of visits since the last time you used a free voucher you'd won in the contest. I think the rule has been changed, but Sales insisted it hasn't and it's been that way all along.

Denny
I don't think anyone would say it's not a good deal, but when they say it's free it's not true. They should say you get a very good discounted rate at $50 a day. You said for comped days there is no service charge, so those days in my opinion are free.

Don.

We won the 5 nights last month. What kind of room does this include? Then you pay the difference if you want an upgrade?
Thanks

Y'know.... that's a good question. I kinda sorta recall (?) that the free nights are the same category as the one you purchase for adjoining days that trip.

It's the same category room you booked when you won the free days. At least that's what they told me last month at the resort.

Lyle is correct--same category as when you won the days. And if you want to downgrade...as we did once because we prefer the GVP rooms, we had to sign off that we were accepting a lower-grade room with no further recompense.

Exceptions can be made especially if there is an availability issue.

Free days are free now. We won three last night. Harry was there when we won and he said for the last ten days, free means free. He wanted to check to make sure it happened.

We had the letter in our room today and everything looks good.

Sooooo... does this mean there is no longer a $50 per night per couple service charge on 'free nights' or does this only apply to nights won from now on (starting in the past week) ???

I just asked that question relative to some nights I won in July 14. The award letter addresses the $25 / day fee, but the hotel manager told the that fee is no longer applicable and to ignore what the letter says.

Did she cross out and initial that part? I know it is a form letter, but I would think they could easily edit the form. The text should be stored on the computer.

It's a paper letter I received in July while I was at the resort and I think that was issued before the decision was made to end the fee collection. I'm planning to use the letter early next year and I'll just keep a copy of her email in case I need it.

NEVER EVER take anything to heart if it is not IN WRITING from Hedo (or anyplace, for that matter), but, especially from anything dealing with Jamaica. writing is your friend.

it will save your attitude in my adopted homeland.

get it IN WRITING!!!!

one love.

How did this work out for you?
We have a 3 night repeater coupon, which we are using on an upcoming trip.. other than that old $50/night fee that they all have there was no stipulation you had to buy more nights, at rack rate or otherwise.

On recent trip (Oct/Nov 2014) used 3 free days won last year during Halloween. There was no charge at all for the free days, making them completely FREE! This was great because they were won back in 2013, when the service charge still applied. Denny made the booking for our trip and we had no problem.
