I know the tipping policy at H2 (no tipping) BUT

Am wondering what the going rate is for the following:

Bus driver MBJ > H2 -This would be JTL or SunTour $1 per bag or ??
Taxi driver MBJ > H2 (SeeDenny's List of taxi companies ) We are trying Rocky first time this year.

Similar for H2 > MBJ

I have used Rocky’s for a long time and usually tip $10 each way.

You do not have to tip...but the bus/taxi drivers DO expect a tip and may ask for one.

For the bus drivers, I've seen a lot of folks give $5 for a couple, or $1 per bag.
For the taxi drivers, I tip $10 each way.
At the airport I tip $1 per bag per person who touches it. Some people double that. If I have 4 bags (typical) then I tip $5 total for the porter to take it from the taxi to the ticket check-in (he often prints out the luggage label at the machine before setting us up in line for the ticket counter check-in.

Your mileage may vary. Some people say I'm cheap. But I'm easy that way...grin!

I am no longer a fan of tipping, it has gotten out of control. I'll do it, but I hate HAVING to do it. What was once a sign of appreciation has become a type of extortion.
I have to put some of the blame on America for the spread of tipping. Most of Europe and Australia had never heard of it until rich Americans started to travel. Now you can't pump your own gas in these countries without someone having a hand out.

5% became 10% - now the "experts" recommend 30% ? For shame.

(Sorry, I'm in a bit of a mood today). eek

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

I totally agree with you. In the case of the Rocky's drivers, they're usually doing extra stuff for me, like stopping to buy stuff at the store on the way, so I don't mind handing them a tip. Also, they've never asked me for a tip in all the time I've used their services.

Who are these "experts"? I've never heard of this.

And traveling right now in countries where tipping is not required or expected, believe me, it is quite pleasant. Any tip I do give (which is quite infrequent) is absolutely for exceptional service.

Respect.

I used to use the $1 per bag rule, but that was like a decade ago, so now I do $2 per bag. We're usually 3 bags and $6 on a vacation is really not that much and I'm sure it makes a difference for the recipients.

We usually tip $1 a bag at the airport when they load the bags and an additional $5-$10 to the bus driver upon arrival. After all, if he gets us there safely it's worth it!

As to tipping the red caps at the airport, as my 4 checked bags are on the heavy side (two scuba bags and two "stuff" bags) plus 4 carry on bags for the cabin, I tip a total of US$20, which might seem excessive, but there is a lot of effort moving my stuff.

I have had issues at the airport where non of the red caps would take my bag. I guess they see me travailing alone and decide "This guy doesn't tip" (of course I do).
But I sure won't if you don't help with the bags!

Do you bring your own tanks??? What the heck do you pack that takes 4 bags. We pack full scuba stuff for 2 (including wetsuits, bcd regs etc etc ) and enough clothes and toys for 12 days all into 2 bags. Plus 2 carryons for electronic gadgets and reading material. Your bags 3 and 4 must be full of hot air.

no air tanks and no weights. Don't bring wetsuits either, just lycra full bodies. Wife likes choices, especially shoes. Need room for misc. stuff that somehow stays. Nothing is overweight, but close.
