I'm an old Hedo vet - 30 some visits but my day is long gone. Back in the day, I loved the party. Wasn't a swinger, but the old ex and I dabbled once or twice and it caused problems. That's not my thing. I just retired and I want to get away for a few weeks. Hedo's a place that crossed my mind. I'd be there on my own (new wife went once, did not like it). What can I expect? I don't want to be an outcast. I don't want people to look at me like an old perv who's just there to gawk because I wouldn't be a gawker. I always enjoyed Hedo and the people I met. Just looking for some advice....Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it. There are plenty of quiet people just soaking up the sun and the rum and minding their own business. Most of the partiers don't notice them, and certainly nobody minds them! Go and relax and party as much or as little as you feel like.

I echo Chicago Jake - I always travel solo and have no issues. There are solo folks (young and old) who just chill and read all day, hang at the piano bar at night and there are solo extraverts who hang with the crowds and meet people. Everyone fits in.... just came back and enjoy the place - it's changed quite a bit based on when you last visited.

I agree with Charlie and Jake - I've been going to Hedo solo for 35 years and always had a good time and never had any difficulty. Go & enjoy yourself.......... you should be able to find whatever situation suites you whether that's calm and quiet or you want to hang out with a bunch of people, it will all very likely be there.

I love sitting on the beach reading. Just go and do your own thing. Yeah, the vibe is a bit different, but as a vet, you know the ropes. I love chilling at Hedo with my hubby....tho he is off scuba diving most of the day. And we just chill at night. Plenty of us around who retired our party hats but still adore Hedo. We chat with the staff, enjoy the peace in the library or prude side, early mornings floating out by the jetty, quiet evenings watching the stars, the rays, whooping it up in the piano bar, watching the shows, meeting new people or not. Same as ever, it is what you make of it. Of course if you hang out in the hot tub or get up in people's business you will be that old perv....but I imagine you know how to behave. 😎

Wife and I have been over 40 times since 92. We went to Negril this past February and stayed at the Negril Palms. Was planning a day trip...but it never happened. We will go again, but retirement looms at the end of the year, with things yet to accomplish.

I owe my lovely wife her float time...maybe bring two rafts. One for her, the other with the cup holders...fill all the holes with double shots of dark rum atop tasty mudslides. Then I would stand on one of the barges, and in my best Mickey Rourke voice...yell out "drinks for all my friends". That's how I want to "go out" on our last trip...mic drop!

There might be more than one, if there is a take-one-leave-one in a room off the piano bar, but The Library may also refer to an area of the nude beach, just toward the dive shack from the massage shack -- popularized by an established group with many who enjoyed reading on the beach. I think there was a sign that once defined the area and said, "Library, Quiet F***ing Only."

The best known library is the one Max2Deb mentions on the beach. There is a take one leave one couple of shelves off the lobby where the travel agents with groups set up shop.

Oh sorry, I was referring to the beach library....just a spot so named for its quiet and apoeal to the readers. RIP dear Theresa. There used to be a pretty good lending library in the now luggage room....but it got decimated after awhile and kind of dropped off.

Yup, the beach Library has lots of fond memories as a very pleasant place to hang out with good friends............ including those no longer with us.

Hmm, you know you're getting old when you start asking if there is a Reading room instead of a Play room. wink

I've "maled" there many times...or was it "femaled" it. I loved your misspelling, Liz!

Joe (of the dearly departed Teresa) is at the old library every day this month. He's doing okay.

Indeed! Our first week coincided with some "beachBind" people who did a tie 'em up demo nightly durng dinner instead of the in-house band music. Odd and became dull...rumor has it that that group will no longer be the evening's entertainment in the future.

The two lime trees on property are MIA and likely cut down. Everyone is excited about Tito's vodka these days. And lines can be long in the ladies bathroom during dinner b/c the piano bar's bathrooms are closed for evil plumbing problems...likely for at least one more month. Rest of rooms (near spa) will be updated before the end of 2018 after occupancy goes down...we're full up. Minor bumping took place to Royalton. Several groups have moved their times to this shoulder season. Book well in advance to get a room. Talk to DennyP.

Thanks, Chris. This is especially true if you want the cheaper Garden View Prude rooms or any of the Premium or Jacuzzi rooms.

What happened to my question? I really don't care about the library or some S&M folks taking the stage during dinner. Who wants to see that stuff anyway?

International Mikey,

Yes, the thread got off on a tangent.

Look up Chicago Jake's posts about going single and everybody asking about his ex.

Going alone after a long time of going as a couple can be a bit mind-bending. If you are now married, you have to behave yourself, as you made those wedding vows.

But if you are still single, and you're interested in starting a new relationship,
you have to adapt to the mode of searching out single females. You may not have done it in many years, but it can be fun. Determine whether every female you are interested in is attached (seriously or not). You will be well aware that Hedo is now more a couples place than a singles place. Those that pass through that screen can be chatted up as time goes by. Pursue those that offer a glimmer of opportunity.

But whatever happens, hopefully, you will still have fun.

Respect.

The more you look, the more you see.

I often wondered for the single guy - not my status - what if you posted an ad in some local personals section about looking for a travelling companion? Fully explain the situation and find someone to go with so at least you wouldn't be alone. Who knows who / what you would find but the search alone might be fun. Anyone ever do this?

That was more of a thing for the '70-'80's. These days it's somehow not socially acceptable - along the lines of "if you can't find someone on your own, there must be something wrong with you so women are better to stay away" reasoning.
You could try an online dating site, but my own experience has been less than thrilling. Of course, I could be the problem there...

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

International Mikey, the groups we go with have several men that travel solo. Several are retired. As in the days you were at Hedo respect and a nice personality are the most important assets we can display. I'm not sure when you plan to return, but the second week of September the Zoo Krew II and Jamaican Waterslide Team are at Hedo. Both groups are not too big, and often have several single males. Occupancy is high enough to have fun, but low enough for a lot of quiet relaxation. I hope you enjoy your return trip, the improvements are very nice.

I went to Hedo once on my own at a time I had never been before but still ran into a lot of people I knew from previous trips. But they were part of a group and spent their time with that group which had a lot of exclusive events. So, I felt left out...but I still met new people and found someone to eat dinner with each night.

Contrast this to another single vacation where the longest conversation I had was with a waitress serving breakfast and I had to keep a shirt on because I couldn't get sunscreen on my back.

So, my advice is to go but check that any groups there that week are inclusive and perhaps join the group in advance and be active on their group site (if they have one). Hopefully that will make you feel like a part of the group and also they will welcome you into the group.

Many groups welcome non-group members to join their events. My Wet Wild and Wicked groups do. Granted ... many groups are exclusive with events because they charge their members additional amounts to cover those events.

Some groups are happy to allow anyone with the right "vibe" to tag along. On my first trip I spent time with the Toms Tours bunch (back when Tom was still around), and they were happy to let me on the boat cruise etc., as long as I signed a photography waiver.

Denny, don't some groups get enough of a discount from the Resort that joining one can get you a cheaper room rate overall?

Yes, PP. If you book at least 5 nights during a group week, you can get what should be the lowest rate available for that week. But it depends on how much, if any, that group adds to the resort's rate to cover their "extra" costs or provide more profit for them. (Not all groups do that - I don't with my WWW groups.) You can check my web site www.h2groups.com for bookable groups. I do book the groups for Tom's Trips, Castaways, Char Travel and Go Classy.

Keep in mind that even if you book with a group, you are under no obligation to identify with the group or participate in their activities. You can book a group just to get the lower rate.

You can use the link in my signature area below to request a quote for any date. If I have a group available to book for those dates, I always quote that.

Thanks for your comment.

Denny is (obviously) correct wink I use an agent (I don't think I'll name which one(s) although Denny is among the cast) for my winter-long stay primarily to get the lowest group rate for each week I'm there. I usually don't even know which group I'm mooching off. It's all about the rate for me - I tend to make my own party.
