I would also suggest don't get the card wet. If it falls into the pool or a drink gets spilled on it, you'll need a replacement. Keeping the card in one of those little zip-lock plastic sandwich bags has served me well over the years.

I carry my key card on a lanyard around my neck. I never had any trouble with one after getting it wet, but the magnetic strip on the back will wear off and sometimes cause the card to fail. If you do get locked out of your room while you're naked, you can sometimes flag down a security guard or housekeeper to let you into your room to get something to wear before you go to the front desk to get a replacement key (or grab a towel from one of the town supply stations).

For surface transport, I've used Rocky's for many years and recommend them highly. Very dependable, very reliable, very professional.

I use the lanyard-around-the-neck trick for my room key, but there is a danger: sitting at the nude pool bar (do they still call it Delroy's, by the way?) it is easy to lean against the edge of the bar and scrape the magnetic stripe off the card!

Also - I had a friend whose keys kept going bad, every day! It took her awhile to figure out that her magnetic clip-on sunglasses in her purse were screwing up the coding.

Yup, same experience with the bar scraping up the mag strip. When it starts to show wear and bare spots, time to get a new one from the front desk to avoid getting locked out.

Like others (if you are taking a tally), I always put my room keycard on a coil around my wrist and I get it wet all day. I always ask for 2 room keys because one goes bad about half my trips.

Ditto on what Chris shared. Linley is great- reliable and “reasonable”. If first time to Jamaica, ride the bus for the “experience” aspect. If you’ve been before, eliminate the wait time, and travel via a private driver. Also, consider sharing a ride and splitting the cost with another single or couple arriving within a half hour of you. Enjoy!

Also, we haven’t visited at the same time as either of the aforementioned groups. However, the overwhelming majority will allow you to join in with their reindeer games- especially as a single female! 😎

After reading some of the replies, I realize we know waaay too much about the place. The best chair to sit in, which bar tender makes a drink the way you like it, how best to keep a key-card - that sort of thing.
You just don't see that level of passion for a resort very often. Hedo is a little bit different...

I would love to hear what redcurlsinMD has to say about the place after her visit; please come back here and tell us the tail!

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

There's also the danger of TMI Overload -- too many folks giving information or offering opinions. This thread is five pages deep now. This poor woman must feel sorry she asked the so-called "experts"!

"So called experts"? The collection of information offered comes from a group with MANY decades of experience with Hedo, and one of them is a published author on the subject. If they're not 'experts', who would be?

She asked, and people responded........... we all just hope she finds it helpful.

Besides putting it in her beach bag, she now knows three other ways to carry her key card.

I'm sure there are others we could come up with. There's always sticking it inside a baseball cap and wearing the cap on your head, which also has the added advantage of protecting you from the sun.

(Not an expert, I just play one on the Internet)

All genius ideas for the key, y’all. I’ll be getting 2, bringing a coil bracelet, and also a sun hat with a band to stick it in.
I can’t thank you all enough for the info! I’m having fun shopping for crazy outfits and comfy beach wear for when I absolutely must get dressed. LoL!
Since I’m only bringing a carryon bag, where is the cheapest place to buy high-spf sunscreen? I’m assuming the gift shop at the resort will be most expensive.

There,s a gas station across the road, within waking distance, where you can probably find some and other things you might want or need. I usually take Rocky’sforground transportation and just have the make a quick stop there on the way to the resort to pick up stuff like that.

CVS has a 3 oz tube of 45SPF (comparable to Neutrogena's more pricey brand) that qualifies for carry-on that's cheaper than buying in Jamaica and should be plenty for your stay unless you sunbath a lot. Mine lasted me 6 trips (face, chest, tops of feet daily).

Yeah, but a gal traveling solo may want to recruit people to help her apply sunscreen, and she might want a LOT of it........ smile

The cheapest place for us has been online.

We can get 6 or 8 cans of SPF100 Banana Boat sunscreen for about 6 or 8 dollars a can (can't remember). But it's a great, non-greasy spray, and lasts a long time. We don't need all 6 or 8 for one trip, but you might as well get them, if you're going to be in the sun a lot on your trips.

And yes, the gift shop will be the most expensive.

One of the beauties of Hedo is that there is a lot of shade on the beach.

Respect.

The more you look, the more you see.

Oh heck, I think a woman would have no trouble bumming some off of whoever is around.

I usually bring extra just in case I run into someone in need... wink

If I could bathe in sunscreen, I would. Red hair plus sun is no Bueno. I think I even sunburned my earlobes once.
I’ll see how much I can fit in my carry on bag and then hit up the gas station when I get there. It’s too bad they don’t make those spray cans in 3 ounces or less!

Don't forget about the TSA limitations on packing fluids, gels, aerosols, etc. in your carry-on bag. A difficult conversation with TSA during check-in is a tough way to start a vacation! Just a suggestion........

Right.
Sunscreen has blown up countless aircraft, hence TSA's refusal to allow it in carry-on luggage, beyond 3 oz containers in a quart baggie.
So the OP's question is where to buy it cheaply after landing at MBJ...

I like the idea (if you are taking a hired car) of just making a quick stop somewhere. The driver will know what stores have a good price and take foreign currency, and heck, for a few bucks he'll even help carry the bags.

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

I have been to hedo previous 2 years as a single male and I have found you will make friends. I have just stuck up conversations with people, mind you being welsh makes that easier for me smile

I have never found myself not making friends, the people there are always friendly and you will get along well with most people and as a single male it is normally harder than it is for a single woman. But all you need to do is chat to people and be yourself.
