I know. It’s a bad habit. But we have not kicked it yet. We have been to Hedo over 25 times up to 2013. Haven’t been back since due to scheduling. We always managed to find other smokers and stay back in corners by the bar in the nude pool.
Thinking of returning next month for our anniversary. Would we still find others that are smoking in the pool area or are we the total exception? If we stayed in ocean hot tub room, can we smoke on the patio?
Any comments appreciated.

If you smoke on the pool deck you will get a visit by security asking you to move out of the pool area.
Should be ok on the patio.

Legally you cannot smoke anywhere in Jamaica that is 1) covered or 2) has staff present. There is obviously an exception for private homes, but not for hotels. So legally if your patio has a roof (and I think all of them do) then it is illegal to smoke there. Unfortunately, however, no one is probably going to stop you.

You cannot smoke in a public space (covered or open); a resort is considered a public space as is a stadium, a bus stop, any office building, health clinic just to name a few.
For a resort, the Jamaican laws specifies that you cannot smoke on the beach, at a bar (open or covered), in a pool (open or covered), at a restaurant (open or covered), in a resort room, on a resort patio or balcony, in a disco/nightclub, piano bar to name a few spaces.
Resorts are allowed (but not required) to provide designated smoking areas that are away from the general population; Hedo has a few of these areas.
Hedo applies a penalty of US$250 for smoking in the rooms and associated spaces.
If you wish to read the Jamaican law, here is a website lists the law: http://www.japarliament.gov.jm/attachments/412_The%20Public%20Health%20(Tobacco%20Control)(Amendment)%20Regulations,%202014.pdf

You can use a disposable plastic cup with a bit of sand in it to smoke at your chair on the beach. Smoking on your hot tub patio or balcony is not a problem either.

Smoking is like driving drunk. Just a matter of time! With today's cost of cigarettes if you quit there's at least a trip to Hedo.

Suppose it takes a bit of self-discipline to decide to obey the laws of a foreign country, especially those that they are health-related. Still, I realize the power of nicotine addiction and lighting up where you are not supposed to (by law) is easy to justify.

funsunlovers: What may be written somewhere and what happens in practice are, like many things at Hedo, different. I don't smoke, but i can tell you with no doubt that people were smoking on the nude beach with no trouble at all.
I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm just saying what was happening when I was there in February, 2017.

The resort web site says that smoking is only allowed in designated areas. But they don't say where those are. They do list areas where it is not allowed and the beach is not listed. The below is quoted from the resort's web site FAQ. Are there Smoking and Non-Smoking areas in the hotel?
All rooms, restaurants, piano bar, wine bar, spa, gym, playroom and nightclub are non-smoking. Smoking is allowed in designated areas only. Interpret that how you will.

IIRC the nearest designated smoking area to the nude beach is behind the soda machine near the restrooms.

Yes, right next to the very large propane tanks. We were there when they were building it, and when they told us what they were building, we pointed out the proximity to the tanks. The response? Pure Jamaican. "We don't pick da spot, we just build da ting where we told to build da ting, mon"

Whatever happened to "Be Wicked for a Week"? I have no problem with you being wicked as long as it does not negatively impact me. And smoke of any kind negatively impacts me. Heck, I can't stand the smell of perfume so don't get me started on those stupid (<-- word substituted from original) eCigs!

Whatever happened to "Be Wicked for a Week"? Like said above, there still is smoking, but for the most part people are very respectable, don't let it blow at you. For being wicked for a week, last December I noticed the decline in cig smokers and never saw a joint in or around the pool. Not saying there was not some "wicked" going on, as whiffs were present every day, a couple times a day. The big change was jello shots, and brownies like crazy.

When we were there at the end of September, we saw people smoking on the beach, by the nude pool, the main pool, the small pools -- pretty much every unenclosed space. Of course, we shared three days with the Paradise Challenge models and crew, who smoked and violated every other rule as well.
Better to have tripped than never danced at all.

In MacHeath2's response there is a comment about the Paradise Challenge Models and crew. I could believe that they did what they wanted and the "rules" were not for them. I did see on VIMEO a video that they put together that show the girls and events of that week from their perspective. It seems that in addition to drone video of the property, there was video being shot of many of their events. Just to let you know and see for yourself.... I did not see anyone else other then the models and crew in this video. It seems that they did take effort to not have anyone that did not want to be in the video show up. It is a nice view of the property and some beautiful women... paradise models at HedoDarrell

Recently returned (4 days ago). Smoking ok on the beach (anywhere sand is under your feet and no roof over your head), on upper dinning room pool deck and a new smoking lounge next to the piano bar.
