Hi All,

I just heard Deon has some health issues. I wanted to know if anyone had an update on how he is feeling.

Thank you,
Eric

The word on another board is the Dion has had a stroke and is in the hospital unable to talk and paralyzed on one side. I brushed it off as a rumor at first, but it seems to possibly be true. The poster the other board says that they are in contact with someone who would know. Take that for third hand information that it is.

I was asked by Donna Grant to observe his wishes to keep his condition private.

Poor Deon!

Who is leading the piano bar these days and is it a person playing the actual piano like in the old days when it was more of a sing-along?

I meant no disrespect. I have much respect for Dion. I was answering the OP's question. I did not know he did not want the info out there. It is all over the other Hedo boards.

Please keep him and Miss Stephanie in your thoughts prayers.

Wow, there are some big donations in there. Including from Harry Lange.

My heart goes out to both Dion & Stephanie at this time and always. We're returning this April and anxious to see what has changed.

During my trip two weeks ago we went to the piano bar. One night the keyboard player from Roots Explosion was playing and one of the EC was the MC. The were both good but the vibe was not the same without Dion. On another night Mark Maze from Tom's trip was running his own kareoke machine.

A new piano bar player needs to be found. The room just wasn't the same without Dion or at least someone who can get the crowd going and willing to stay and enjoy the show.

Stephane has been MC'g the piano bar lately and also singing in the courtyard on Friday nite's after the main show. She sounds as wonderful as always - she comes with a band on Fridays.

In April, Stephanie and the piano player from Roots Explosion were holding up the piano bar. Donna Grant told me they were still waiting on news of Deon's health. I'm personally thinking he might not be coming back, but that's only my opinion. At that time, no other plans were reported to me when I asked, but I'm sure I don't get to hear all details.

Chris, as you know the piano bar can be a real happening place, with the right piano player, or it can be a real sleeper, with the wrong one. I think Dion needs to be replaced, not because he isn't good, but because he isn't there, and WE are. Didn't they have another fill in when Dion went off to were ever. I think his name was Mike, not as good as Dion but a least up there. The piano bar is one of the things we like about Hedo. Can you spell YMCA, with your legs. LOL

I agree...I'd like to see them bring in someone who runs a more fun program than what's going on now.

I'd like to have a piano player (not a tech music show on electronic keyboard with accoutrements). The sound level would be so much more reasonable and pleasant. That's my preference anyway.

Anyone remember Ike? He played off and on at Hedo a few years ago, and I thought he was pretty good without being too crazy. I saw him at Grand Lido back in 2014, so I imagine he is still bouncing around the circuit. Maybe they could get him back?

Kemar was one of the best IMHO. He was there for a while before Deon's return. Apparently he left to work on cruise ships, would be great if they could get him back.

Actually Ike is in the Negril area ..he lives at the cottages at the Boat Bar I think..I see him there when I go there to hear live music in the afternoons..He plays a couple of different places during the week I went and saw him at Beachcombers(where Mrs. Levee has her new wine bar Wine with Me) on a Thursday night. I know when I talked with Howard, he had given Ultimate's contact info to Harry but nothing ever came of that...If the hotel wants to continue to be considered a top quality hotel and charge that way, they are obligated to provide first-class entertainment in the piano bar.not just fill ins. When Deon and Stephanie were rockin', the place was on fire. I looked forward to every night they played. Just IMHO

I am happy they invested in the disco. I/we don't care for the piano bar. We would rather go from dancing in the dining room to a great band, straight to the disco afterward. While we greatly enjoy Roots Explosion, we could completely do without the showtime extravaganza.

I wonder whatever happened to the piano player at Hedo III - I think his name was John? He was great! If he is still around, maybe Hedo II could bring him in. There were lots of good times at the piano bar there back in the day.

I'm with Carter...John from Hedo III was wonderful. And he can play Bohemian Rhapsody...we haven't had a piano player since Lenworth Ultimate who could play that.

I agree about John, he was terrific!- but I remember way back when Hedo III was about to close, I talked to him about Hedo II. He told me it was just too far away from where he lives and he wasn't willing to either move or commute.

Glad to hear Dion is making progress. Too many Jamaicans have strokes and don't get the proper medical attention.

Respect.

I'm sure there many talented piano players in the area that they could get.

Maybe it's just a cost-saving measure to use the in-house keyboard player. I don't know.

The piano bar is one of the greatest parts of the Hedo night life.

I agree that they need to bring life back to the piano bar. Since the outdoor seating area changed from outside the front doors (picture the partial wall, tree and table and chairs) to a single file seating area behind the room, and now no regular piano player, there just isn't the same vibe to go there. Hopefully the disco has regained some of its charm. Used to love to go there to dance after, the piano bar. smile

Dion came back on Jan 7th 2018... Stephanie was with him. He seemed a little slower, but no real signs of the stroke. At least that we could tell. He looked really good. Some friends of his were there and said he had been driving for over a month.
