I'm considering a trip to see the ruins in South America -- I've never been there, and its one of those places I always wanted to go.

Does any one have a favorite ruin? Copan? Palenque? Tikal?

Not familiar with Palenque but Copan and Tikal are in central america. I have visited Tikal and Copan and to me Tikal is best. Copan is great but not an easy trip. If you go to Tikal I recommend staying in San Ignacio BELIZE and taking a day trip from there into Guatamala. Usually an uneventful ride but if the bandidtos are out can be memorable. San Ignacio is a great town with many hotel/motel/ options. We prefer the San Ignacio Hotel.

Tikal has ruins completely uncovered and several towers still buried but rising above the rain forest canopy. Incredible!!

Ruins of South Africa have worth to pay the visit but many ruins in Asia are splendid too. Most of us do not know about the places and that is why do not pay the visit there so if any one is interested in ruins cities then he must visit the Asia.

Ruins of South Africa

Hope that's a typo, as the ruins being discussed are in Central America.

Looking at the pictures of the ruins mentioned, they all look great. Of course, the easiest ones to get to and the ones seen by the most people are Chichen Itza and Tulum in Mexico, close to Cancun. But they are way more crowded than the other choices.

I've seen Mayan ruins in Mexico and Belize, and they are all interesting, considering what you are seeing is actual history, but after a while, they all kind of blend together, and you don't remember specifics about each one (at least that's what happened to me).

But do go and see them, but maybe not all of them.

Respect.

The more you look, the more you see.
