I recently booked Hedo II for Feb 3-10 2013. I haven't been there for a few years and was wondering if anyone from the Minneapolis area could tell me the cheapest time of the year to purchase tickets. I remember when I used to go more frequently I could fly to MBJ for 4 to 500 now everything seems to be around 800-1000. There are really only to airlines, Delta and Sun Country that will get you there within 5 to 7 hours. I prefer non-stop but could handle a small layover. 324 days and counting!

With the current status of the airlines, there is no reliable way to predict the best time to purchase air fares. Airline consolidation, flight cutbacks, fuel costs, and other factors all combine to making it a crap shoot.

I use kyak.com to shop multiple web site for flights/prices that work for me. Then I use yapta.com to automatically track price changes.

If there was a good way to predict the best time to purchase tickets, someone would be making a lot of money on that.

It's a lot like the stock market. You can't predict the lowest price to buy or the highest price to sell.

Thanks Denny,

I have never heard of yapta before. I looked it up and it sounds pretty interesting. I have friends that go to Negril every year that swear August is the cheapest month to by airfaire to Jamaica. Personally I always wait until about three months before I leave and take either Sun-Country or Delta. I was just wondering if airlines tend to jack the prices up to warm weather locations for instance two months prior to departure?

We recently booked a charter flight to Jamaica through a tour company (after booking travel through Denny of course). I purchased trip insurance on the flights. The fine print in the insurance included price protection. Our airfare went down $600 over several months. I called the company each time the price decreased and they credited my card. I would suggest doing a lot of research.
