We have been to Hedo II many times - one of our favorite things to do is our daily walks on the beach. For those who have never ventured off the resort, here's a video of Negril beach... all the way into town. If you make it through until the end (9 minutes), you'll see some great clips of our favorite Hedo II bartenders!!! We recommend a break from the party for an enjoyable walk :-) Starts out with a great clip from Scumba!!! ps - we stayed at Swept Away a few nights before Hedo... there's a couple shots there and a few from Rick's Cafe as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G72CIHq9AU

Great video. Many Hedo trips, stayed at Swept Away as well. Beach walks have always been one of my favorite activities in Negril, wherever I stay. Something everyone should try. Its liberating - I guess that's the best way to describe it. There's nothing like it at home. Thanks for putting it on video. I'll save this and take a look at it every now and then.....

andy and patty ...two of my favorites.
i love the walk down the beach. my wife usually buys a new sarong or dress...i pick up a couple of cigars, and if we can make it all the way we ahve a few beers at cosmos, maybe some fried conch....and then a cab back to hedo.
a great way to spend a quiet afternoon being all romantical.

Well. NOW the DIF is in full gear...
I think the Negril tourist office should send you something for this video - it's more enticing than many of the commercials I've seen!
All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

how long a walk is it from Hedo to town, along the beach? and can you stay on the beach the whole way?

You can walk all the way into town with at least one necessary diversion off the beach - you have to walk a trail through a park area because the beach has eroded away over the years, but once back on the beach, you can make it all the way into town. Its hard to figure time wise because I never wear a watch on vacation, but I'd imagine it takes about two hours to get all the way to town from Hedo. You can cab back or walk back. If you decide to make the trip, figure on a half day at least. There's plenty of places to stop along the way for a beer, etc. It is billed as the Seven Mile Beach, and I'd venture to say its every bit of that.....

Contrary to what the tourist industry advertises, Negril beach is not 7 miles long. It's more like 4 to 4 and a half miles.
I've walked the whole beach and back barefoot. I would not recommend doing that, as walking 9 miles barefoot is tough on the feet. And because I didn't use sunblock on my feet, they got sunburned to boot. Luckily I had a full day for my swollen feet to recover before I had to put on shoes when I departed Hedo.
Great video!
Respect.

Andy & Patty, thanks for sharing your video. It definitely gave us all a nice "fix." When we are at H2, we start just about each day with a beach walk and over the years we've met a lot of nice people (both local people and and guests from various hotels) during those walks. Great job!

The "7 Miles" includes the beach on Bloody Bay (plus the part around Rutland Point where there is no beach), so, yes, Long Beach is about 4 1/2 miles.

So noted. I've walked it up and down dozens of times since the mid-70's and never did know for sure how long it actually was. Needless to say, sun block is absolutely essential if you intend to venture out. It's best to take along a fanny pack or something small to carry sunblock, a few $$, a camera, a cigar or ??, lighter and whatever else you might need for a full morning or afternoon. A pair of flip flops isn't a bad idea either if you decide to go into town and walk the pavement or for the path where you have to leave the beach for a few hundred yards.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! Yep - the video sure does bring on the DIF :-) It might possibly be the most beautiful 4 1/2 miles you will ever experience. We do wish they would improve the path, though... we never wear shoes, but that part is a little hard on the feet. The swimming is perfect along the way - if you love being in the water. Hopefully this will inspire some folks that never ventured down the beach to give it a try :-)

Thanks for the video...was just there two weeks ago and I am soooo homesick! We walked to Margaritaville one day and it was awesome...we will do the whole 4.5 miles next year. Thinking of taking cabs down and walking and drinking all the way back!

didnt get to walk the beach the last two trips. Is the tree still sticking out and blocking the beach making you either walk up to the road or out into the water? Use to take us about 30 minutes to get to that spot.

I assume you are talking about the area right after the beach house... you don't want to go around that area in the water - the rocks are very sharp and slippery. That is what we call the "path". You have to walk up by the road for a few hundred feet. After that is actually the best part of the walk! The path is a little hard on your bare feet, but very worth it. After that, you have about another hour to go. We usually walk slow and make a few stops, but usually make it into town to catch a cab at Burger King in about an hour and a half :-)

Thanks Andy & Patty! Great video... I normally split my trips between coco la palm (love it there!) and hedo, but this reach I'll be at Hedo the whole week for the 1st time with the www summer crew!! I hope to FINALLY get to meet dennyp! I was always a fews days before or after the group with the buttcrackers!!! Everyone needs to get out sometime and expereince the "real negrl" for sure! I try to get to some of the www.realnegril.com webcasts while there, especially the one on Sat nights at Seastar Inn on the cliffs! It's so nice there, I've been tempted to stay there sometime..... Take Dr. Quality (right outside the gate) to the area of the beach where Sun Beach, Firefly, and For Real are, and you'll see what I mean! He's not expensive, and he'll take good care of you...He sits right outside the gate there....876-405-4077.. There is so much to see outside of Hedo for sure!!!! The ocean at the beach area towards the cliffs, coco la palm area, is SO much better than Hedo's!!!!! I'm a pool person at Hedo for that very reason!!!! Can't wait till July!!!! p.s. Plus i'm one of those nasty cigarette smokers that you all can't stand!!!! Hedo has to be the only place I know of in Negril where you can't smoke cigarettes wherever you want to!!!!! It's like being in the good old USA in that sense.....but the majority prevails, right!!!???? Even in Jamaica.....sad, but true, but only at Hedo!!!
