So for all the vets here. How does the staff deal with all the naked people at the resort. I mean they are clothed i assume. So is it just second nature to them by now.

yep. exactly.

as with most other things at hedo...it's what's inside a person that counts more than the outside.

in fact...most stories we tell to friends about hedo..they are laughing like crazy. but we neglect to say everyone was nekkid and they just think it is a funny story. if they only knew...

and yes...the staff is clothed. unless you are playing human barbies and dressup...but that is another story.

I suppose that the staff gets used to it, but for the most part Jamaicans are very conservative people and would tend to be offended by the nudity and the open sexuality.

Next time you go through Jamaican customs, tell them you are staying at, "The Zoo". It usually gets a laugh.

The staff wears uniforms based on their various job descriptions. They treat you just like you're clothed.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this in other threads but all the staff have new uniforms. Nice bright colors...

I don't think they could work at Hedo if they found nudity offensive. It's pretty much second nature to them.

Although it does bring up the question: If you are only half dressed when one of the staff knocks on the door, do you put on more clothes or take the rest off?
For some reason I'd feel embarrassed to be caught half way...

All in all, I'd rather be a hippy.

Having a job is pretty much a second nature for survival. If Superclubs offers you a job at one of the resorts, given the unemployment rate in Jamaica, you take it regardless of your feelings about nudity. Perhaps you can come to a certain level of acceptance, perhaps not.

If you have ever arrived in Jamaica on a Sunday you would see Jamaicans dressed in their finest clothes to go to church- which is not an American style service that is over in 40 minutes, but a service that lasts for several hours. Be careful not to ascribe American values to Jamaicans. They are a deeply religious people who thank their Lord for what few things they have in life. We are their guests and we need to understand and accept their culture, not vice versa.

Heck, I feel disrespectful if I'm buck naked when I answer the door when staff knocks. Go figure. I can walk naked in all the nude places outside the room with no problem.

when i was on the nude side, i was always nekkid. period. no matter who was around. that was my purpose of being there. i enjoyed the freedom of h block and everything thereof. any visitor, jamaican or otherwise was in "my" world and had to 8-) deal wit it.

now, any other time and location at hedo, i had textile on.

Yah I feel suddenly shy too when I am talking to staff that I unexpectedly meet up with. The odd thing is that I keep forgetting that I am naked and realize half way through the conversation with the staff member. I actually managed to wander off resort ( I have a really bad sense of direction) and was talking to some guys doing the gardening at a neighbouring resort and did not realize until AFTER they pointed me in the right direction. My first morning home last trip I was in our room looking out the window and as my usual custom took a picture of the view. Some guys working in front of "God's Hole" waved for the camera and then decided to come over to our room to chat. The minute they waved at me I quickly wrapt myself in the curtain and by the time they got to the room I still hadn't got to my clothes fast enough so I am kind of hiding behind the corner while my hubby is talking away. I remember poking my head out to add to the conversation and these guys grinning away!!!

I'm the same way, Chris, although I am not comfortable walking from my room to the beach without being covered if there are maids or other staff people around. Of course, there are staff people who give me the creeps. I remember being on my lounge chair on the beach, wide awake, but with my eyes closed. Gavin, the Ent. Coordinator passed by thinking I was asleep and remarked, "What a waste of a great d*ck"."

i find myself covering for the staff too. I will walk naked most places, and dont think about it much at all, but if i have to have a conversation with one of the employees not SPECIFICALLY designated to service on the nude side....i cover myself before starting teh conversation. respect, modesty...i dunno...just makes me feel more comfortable.

While I respect the views of those who wish to go nude whenever on the nude side, I personally think that when I am on the walkways on the nude side I usually wear a wrap in respect to the staff who may not be comfortable. I think when I am in someone else's country I am obliged to try to make my standard of behavior as close to their standards as possible. If I am on the beach, I'm fine with nudity, but not where the maids are cleaning rooms.

I remember talking with Michael Thompson at at Delroy’s a few years ago. He was Head Chef, a Cajun boy, and in our time at Hedo the best chef they’ve ever had. He said that one thing they never taught him in culinary school was how to talk to naked customers.

Yeah Lew, that is why we have the sarongs...can throw them on in a jif. Even back and forth to room because you never know when a journey will incorporate a detour to the diningroom area, etc.

and FYI...always engage the EXTRA lock on the door when you are in your room. Especially when you are "bizzy".

Just sayin'.

I will tend to wrap my towel around me if I'm having a conversation with an employee outside of Delroy's and just want to be respectful to them. I agree if they had an issue with nudity I don't think they would work there. And many of them have said they would come to Hedo to vacation if they could. ; )

As a woman I always wear a wrap going to and from the nude side (some type of foot covering also). But when we stay on the nude side, my husband prefers to be nude at all times. I don't find this disrespectful, just the way he is. He always wears a tam.

I don't think the staff are offended. It may not be their preference to see a bunch of naked Gringos, but they are probably happy to be employed at all. As Marshall Field said, the customer is always right!

As long as guests act in a mature way around staff and treat them with respect, then the nudity aspect appears to be no big deal.

If you mean that they don't gasp and or faint, you're right. My only point is that the average Jamaican is far more proper than the average Hedo guest, concerning nudity, and does have issues with the overt sexuality. I choose to go to the rooms covered. Others do not. I've talked to a half dozen of the maids about it and their reaction ranged from passive acceptance to disfavor. Its their country, they make me feel at home, and i try to make them comfortable around me. I do note that maids on the nude beach side have become less sensitive regarding the issue.

I would be a little careful at customs joking around. We were asked where we were staying and told her Hedo2. She mumbled something and when I said 'excuse me' she started hollaring at us sinners to move along or else. I had visions of spending my vacation in a dirt-floor cell with no Red Stripe.

The reaction of the immigration agent is more typical of Jamaicans than some might think. What we think is super cool is not exactly what the average Jamaican thinks is cool. I will not delve into the, perhaps, hypocritical nature of Jamaican society. And of course, I will not delve into the nature of American society either. I usually avoid, when appropriate, nudity in the presence of housekeepers and and other employees of that nature. The employees at the nude bar and along the nude beach are used to nudity and being nude, of course, is expected while affecting very few employees.

Transplant Hedo into the USA or lots of other countries I can think of, and you may very well find the same reaction among the general public as the one reported above by the Jamaican Customs person. Just because we're comfortable with Hedo and the things that happen there, doesn't mean it's universally accepted by others.

At one time the EC's were allowed to go nude on the nude beach if they weren't working. That was back in the late 80's.

Not so sure about that. Out of respect for the fact that I am in their country and their country's morals are different, I always covered up when not on the beach. It doesn't cost very much to be respectful at all.
