Last year while at the pool I noticied that if you bring a cd they will put it in the player, are the still doing that? Also whats your favorite music to hear while hanging out at the pool? John

Anything but the Fred Flintstone Jamaican rap that is played. Yabba Dubba, Yabba Dubba, Da Da, Yabba Dubba, Yabba Dubba, Da Da, Yabba Dubba, Yabba Dubba, Da Da…

Most northerners like roots reggae… to the people that work there roots reggae is like listening to Frank Sinatra tunes or hits from the 1950’s

Reggae is what I want to hear when I am in Jamaica. Unfortunately there are apparently a lot of hardcore rap fans at Hedo these days (at least that is what I keep hearing through the speakers). Others just giggle like little kids at any song that refers to sex and the more explicit it is the better they seem to like it... no matter how much the 'song' sucks.
So what I am saying is... if I got to pick the music it would be reggae rather than sex novelty songs or gansta rap. But since I don't rule the world..... we get whatever folks insert into the machine. smile
Because I can't help myself I will add.... I am tired of hearing talented Jamaican singers (EC's and outside talent) cover American Pop songs of the past. I want some real Jamaica Reggae after dinner too!

Hey, what's wrong with Frank Sinatra? Frank rules!

But while in Jamaica, I'll vote for old-school reggae, especially over the new rappish stuff.....Jake

Wow only two songs of Bob Marley? Guess Def Leppard or AC/DC don't stand a snowball's chance huh?

I agree that different music is needed. We hate hearing the same crap. On the other hand, there is an old proverb that goes:

Just back recently,the bar had an ipod port and hooked it up to a loud speaker that you could hear from the beach or pool.Always played Reggae,some songs good some not so.All in all still better than the boombox they had from last year.
They do take the speaker away at night to use in the main room for the enertainment shows.Sop no music late at night.

I barely even notice the music. If given a choice my vote is for reggae. I can listen to my favorite tunes at home, when I'm in Jamaica I want to be in the Jamaican frame of mind.

I do agree more reggae would be great but will they play cd's from the guests? I have a real good collection music and would burn a couple of cd's for Delroys.

In my experience, they very seldom play rap proper at the Nude pool. But they do they thankfully play Ragga and it does have often have a "rapping" element, of course.

I would imagine that Ragga/dancehall is conceivably the most popular music on the island and it is nice to hear Jamaican music. Music is a very big part of the culture in Jamaica and they have reasons to be proud in this respect, in my view.

Personally, I am always a bit disappointed when they play non-Jamaican music. It matters less to me if the music has a nice rhythm, but I am really quite happy they avoid playing rock.

When I was there over the new year somebody brought some 70s disco CDs and it was just plain awful.

Since we all hate different types of music.... smile

I am not a fan of :
"kill your parents Rock",
"I'm a better American than you Country",
"beat me some Ho's Rap",
or any form of disco music at all..... so I would really rather have as much Reggae/Dance Hall/ Local music as possible. Sure, the music I tend toward is Stones, Aerosmith, later Beatles (can you tell I am an old guy yet?) but there are those who cannot stand my music too. So... let's settle on Jamaican music! hehe

Best music preference quote ever:
In the immortal words of Jim Carey at the MTV Music Awards one time.... "I like rap music as much as the next frightened caucasion but would it kill ya to play some Foghat?"

Respect and good tunes,
Roy in VA

I guess they're still bringing down the portable sound system for playing music ???

Sounds like they never replaced the old CD player at the grill.

Yes ???

Hey, do you think that the bartenders would let us play our own music (we have an iPOD and speakers) for about 20-30 minutes in the afternoon? We were thinking about doing a mini-beach party (happy half-hour) with special shots for everyone, complete with dancing, etc. on the beach in front of the bar. We have a WIDE variety of music- everything from pop, to 80s, to reggae, to hip hop, and thought it might be a nice afternoon break and something a little different.

Would people mind if we did this? We want to respect everyone, but thought it might be fun.

What would be nice is a perm Ipod docking site at the nude Hottub for those late nights when the bar closes. The guests could just dock with their portable ipods and listen as long as they want.

I will neither confirm nor deny that my hand, foot, arm, leg, butt, or some other various body part of mine may be in one of your pictures.

Somehow I missed Collie Buddz. He's the most Jamaican white Canadian guy around. And Sean Paul...must have been a cut and paste error. Gotta put them on the list:

Collie Buddz
* Come Around (this goes on my top 10 too)
* Wild Out
* Blind To You
* Tomorrow's another day
* Defend your own

Sean Paul
* Give it up to me
* My Name
* Infiltrate
* Temperature
* Breakout
* Concrete
* Gimme the light
* Like Glue
* Shout

And a few more:
* Jamaica Way (Beenie Man and Kelis)
* Break it off (Rihanna and Sean Paul)
* Romie (Beenie Man)
* Girls Dem Sugar (Beenie Man)
* King of the Dancehall (Beenie Man)
* Crazy Talk (Buju Banton)
* Boom Boom (Degree)
* Talk to my back (Lady Saw)
* Pull Up (Lil John, Mr. Vegas and Pitbull)
* Boombastic (Shaggy)
* Slow and Sexy (Shabba Ranks)
* Freaky Girl (Shaggy)

This past week, the two songs most played were "What happens at the party stays at the party," which is sort of a Soca thing, and a ballad about "You are my African Queen." That one kept making me think of Bogey and Katherine Hepburn.

They also had an hour or so long Disco medley one afternoon. That was a blast from the past and kind of fun. But I'm glad it wasn't an everyday affair!

Other than that, the music seemed to change from day to day, but was mostly Ragga type stuff I couldn't identify.....Jake
