Desire Riviera Maya Trip Report - Jim: June, 2022

June, 2022

Our second visit to Desire RM with several years in between. We have also enjoyed a week at Desire Pearl last year. This was a combo trip as we had a family wedding in Cancun. DennyP was great helping us connect the two trips. Desire was a welcome recovery period following the stresses of a destination wedding. Check in was as expected.  The hustle to sit through the breakfast sales pitch was insufferable. We were early so we knew our room would not be ready. Went to the spa and checked our carry bags into a locker, stripped down and headed to the pool for lunch and a drink. The sales guy followed us to the spa and pool pushing and pushing to give us a couples massage in return for sitting through the sales pitch. I sat through the presentation on our first visit to RM and vowed then never again. I have no interest in any form of time share. We travel often to adult and lifestyle destinations and rarely to the same place regularly. No reason for us to buy in.

Pool was busy but no problem getting the staff to arrange a daybed. Lunch at the pool grill was very good. Pool bartenders are great. This was a short 3 night stay, each day they did a specialty dining experience outside the pool grill for lunch. Paella one day, tacos another. Convenient and very good. Pool grill was great every day! Buffet or order from the menu and it was all excellent. Water volleyball was a lot of fun each day. My wife and I always play and had a great time.
We had dinner one night in the fine dining resto. Other than being an all-night experience it was very, very good. Be prepared you will be there for a while! Next night we went to the Asian resto. We got scooped into a group who had the high-top table in the middle of the resto. Fun group, much drinking and laughter. It was somebody’s anniversary, and we all had a blast. The leader of that group ordered the tomahawk steak for their party to share. You really have to see the ceremony with which they deliver that thing. Hint: it comes to the table raw in a locked briefcase!! I guess for a $140 dollar steak you should get some kind of ceremony, but it was so much fun. We ordered our own meal so I cannot speak to the eating of said steak but the presentation upon ordering and delivering the huge piece of meat was impressive!

Late afternoons at the rooftop hot tub and bar were a bunch of fun. Lots of PDA’s around the hot tub and daybeds. We enjoyed ourselves up there very much! Bar staff are so funny. Order a “small beer” excellent drink (shot) that is served at both Pearl and RM.

Denny arranged Lomas transportation for us to the airport for our departure and we were picked up on time in a very nice SUV. Great service.

So, after 3 trips to Desire resorts we have concluded that we are more of a Cap D’agde and Hedo kind of couple than a Desire couple. The resorts are both very nice. The sales pitch is frankly insulting. The crowd can be a bit overly impressed with themselves. We find none of that in Cap or Hedo.
