Desire Riviera Maya Trip Report - Chris & Joy: May, 2021
May 16-21
Prior to our trip, we used the online links for both the entry form (and printed) and the health questionnaire. Our flight was fully booked and another was ahead of us in customs, but went smoothly and the printed entry form was easily accepted. No mention of the health questionnaire on the way in, but Mexico was in a lower state of alert when we arrived.
Lomas travel was quickly found outside by the pillars, and after a short wait, we were on our way. Glad we did private transfer and didn’t have to wait for anyone. The driver told us we could remove our masks, and offered a beer which I happily accepted. The ride to the resort was quicker than I remembered, but it had been nearly 10 years since our last visit.
Check in was quick, room not ready as usual. We arrived about lunch time, so first order of business was a bite to eat and a beverage. We rinsed the travel off in the spa, and headed to the pool. A couple of chairs were quickly found for us, and we settled in. A couple hours later our room was ready, Garden View in front of the spa. Quick access to the lobby bar when needed, quiet when we wanted.
Things were pretty much as we remembered. Staff wearing masks, but buffet lines open, serve yourself. Food good as usual. Resort was pretty full, but no problems getting a pool chair. Late in the week a group arrived and filled the resort to capacity. Best chairs were taken early, but we always were able to get a spot by the pool. Mexico alert level increased later in the week, which meant servers had to load your plate at lunch buffet, and at breakfast you ordered from a menu. Not a big deal.
Hot tub and Disco were as we remembered. Entertainment at night was top notch.
Our last day we were moving to another hotel, not leaving Mexico, so I can’t comment on the covid test there, but another couple said it was no problem. We did our test at Andaz before leaving, and that was no big deal. There was an exit health survey required, and the online versions we had done expired. A minor delay to fill out before going through security. Airline confirmed the negative test results, but nobody else ever did.
Overall a great trip. We won’t wait 10 years for the next one, but will still likely get back to Hedo more often, we just enjoy Jamaica more than Mexico, no reflection on the resort.
