Lawrence & Susan - November, 2007

I would like to give our bit of a report concerning Desires Cancun. We had been wanting to try Desires for the longest time, and finally went down in November 2007. WE WERE DISAPPOINTED. First let me say that being a veteran of 38 trips to Hedo II, 5 to Hedo III, 10 to Lido Braco and Lido Negril, I can compare these resorts. We arrived in Cancun without difficulty, also I had lived in Mexico for 3 years, and speak Spanish well, and had been to Cancun several times in the past, definately a major surge in population!. We used the transport used by desires and had no problems with them, both ways. But not private as advertised, we shared the 20 minute ride with 2 other couples; so much for "your own transportation". The resort; by the standards of the ones being built on the Riviera is quite modest. We have been to Secrets and Adventura Spa, and Desires is a maybe 2 star, out of a 5 for Secrets. That said, the property is actually adjacent to a lagoon/marsh area, with crocodiles.

Our arrival was noted with a mimosa and towels, but we were unable to upgrade from a gardenviw. We booked 2 months in advance and that is all they had until 3 days into our stay. We were placed in 1017, which had a view of the parking lot, and had a sewage smell constantly since, behold, it is next to the waste treatment building, we were under the hot tub, and the smell was awful. Room was small and not worth the money, we upgraded to a oceanfront, for $580 more for 3 days, which had a jacuzzi, with inoperable jets. Location was good on the beach, but not worth the jacuzzi.Room 1601.

The people were mostly cliquish, we have never had problems meeting people, we did meet one couple we had spoken to on line prior, and they felt as well that people there were stand-offish, and they were also very disappointed. The resort was full as well. People were not friendly, and I would say stuck-up. I have never said that before in all the Hedo trips, but these people were snobs. We are a good looking couple and tried to speak to many people but only a few were friendly.

The beach was nice but you had to reserve a bed by 7AM, or else have no space on the beach, same with the pool, people would leave stuff by the pool all day, and spend time at the beds, even though a 2 hour limit for left chairs was in place.

The BEST part was the food, given the smelly room, bad people, the food shone. Great breakfast, dinners. Only one place for lunch, the pool grill, small buffet, and limited seating, no other place for lunch, cop out by the resort. The theme restaurants were great-only saving grace. For the same money you can stay at Secrets and have many restaurants to choose from that are actually better.

We all know why we go to these resorts, to be naked and party naked. The rooftop jacuzzi is much smaller than hedo II, shallower, and few places to sit, small bar, and again people were not friendly. We were there at night and two couples were laughing and making fun of an older couple having sex on the side of the jacuzzi. I have never seen that at Hedo; the meaning of respect comes to mind even if you are screwing your brains out.

Lastly the people were very nice, I spoke to many of them in Spanish, and learned a few idioms, there are very nice and just trying to make a living. There are many more resorts opening, so I do not think they will be out of work if desires tanks. You can have this resort, as far as we were concerned, it is overpriced, overhyped, and boring. For action go to Hedo II, III, for a great nude area, Braco; for both in the same week, go to Hedo II/Lido, as we have done many times. We are going back to Hedo II in January to party, after this yawnfest. Oh yes, the timeshare hype is bullshit after spending money to come to this low rent resort.
