Greg & Debbie - November, 2007
Introduction
About five years ago, we began research for our first clothing optional/nude
vacation by reading every trip report posted on Denny P’s site. We continue
to read the trip reports and appreciate the insight they can help bring to
planning a vacation.
Most
people reading these trip reports will find something that will help relate
to their decision. The food was good, the people were ugly, the crocodiles
ate my shoes, they didn’t have my favorite beer, the bartender remembered my
name and drinks after the first day, the bugs were bad, the PDA’s were
awesome, etc. The other side of these opinions could be that maybe their
food tastes are different than yours, they think no one is as pretty as they
are, or they threw their shoes to the crocodiles to see what would
happen……see the pattern here? We think it’s all relative to what you want to
think.
Everyone has different expectations and preferences. We think it’s best to
read as many reports as you can.
After going to both Hedo II and Desire Cancun we know that we prefer
Desire but that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t advise someone to go to Hedo and
expect them to have a vacation of a life-time. We have friends that prefer
Hedo. We still like them though. Our May 2004 Hedo rookie report on this
site didn’t sound like Desire was even on the radar. It wasn’t.
We
have made many friends who have been to both Hedos, both Desire locations,
and even one couple who went to all four in the same year! Their consensus
is that they are all fun and you will like something about all of them and
you will find things that can be better. Nothing is perfect. You may think
it’s almost perfect but look hard and there will be something wrong.
For
perspective, we are both in our very early 50’s, have been married (to each
other) over 30 years. We have grown kids. We also vacation at other
“regular” places the years we have gone to Hedo or Desire. We don’t think of
ourselves as being pretty or ugly, fat or thin, dumb or smart. We don’t
consider ourselves to be purists, prudists, nudists, lifestylists, or most
of the other “ists”. We enjoy meeting and being with people who enjoy
meeting and being with us.
This
was our 3rd consecutive trip to Desire after two previous trips
to Hedo II. We first went to Hedo in May 2004, and returned in May 2005. We
made our first trip to Desire in October 2005 (one week before hurricane
Wilma damaged the resort), and returned in September 2006.
We
have not gone to either resort as part of Denny P’s www group (although we
plan to sometime-they have a great time we hear) or a takeover, group, or
lifestyle event. We’ve never travelled to either resort with another couple
or to meet another. We have exchanged emails prior to every trip with other
couples and have met those couples on every trip. We booked (and received)
garden view or run-of-the-house rooms on every trip. We have never been
disappointed with the rooms and they have often (4 of 5 times) been at the
extreme furthest ends of the property (away from the pool). We’ve never
asked either resort to change anything while we were there.
Desire November 2007
We
used Transbeach (arranged through Desire) for the 20-minute ride from the
airport to Desire. The car was waiting, we traveled alone, and the driver
couldn’t have been better.
Check in at about 11 am was quick and easy. After declining the “returner’s
tour” of the resort, we received nothing more than a smile from the staff
member. Our room wasn’t ready until about 3 pm but we took our carryon bags
to the Spa, changed, and locked our things in a locker. We went to the pool
had lunch and began our relaxing vacation.
Lunch is served by the pool (unless the weather is bad). There is always a
good variety of hot grilled items, pizza, salads, etc. Ice cream was
available every day. We had grilled tuna steak a couple of days that rivaled
the best we’ve had anywhere.
The
days at Desire for us are either spent around the pool (where games are
held) or on the beach. The beach has several covered beds (Palapa’s). To
reserve one you have to go down early (7 am worked for us) and check one out
with the beach attendant. If
you leave for more than 2 hours, the resort may pick your things up and give
the bed to someone else. The pool chairs have similar rules but reserving a
pool chair is done by putting something on them.
If
we have a complaint about Desire (actually the people at Desire), it’s about
people holding either beds or chairs they don’t use. On every trip and on
most days, things laid on unoccupied chairs and beach beds most of the day
without people. Stricter enforcement of the rules by Desire would help make
things better. We think a better solution would be that if everyone who does
this would be more courteous to their fellow guests the problem would go
away. There are enough (we counted) beds and chairs to go around if we each
pick one. We saw several couples who had pool chairs and beds. This isn’t
rocket science-it’s just the selfish and inconsiderate actions of people who
don’t care about others. We don’t do it, most others don’t, and we wonder
why anyone would do this.
During the afternoon (about 3-6 pm) many people go to the hot tub and
“socialize.” The hot tub beds and performances are legendary. We wonder why
we don’t see more condoms out (or is it in and out) up there. Not that we
watch-uh how do we save this?
After the hot tub, it’s time for a shower, dressing up, and then dinner. We
normally stroll by the lobby bar to have another drink and to see who’s out
and where people are having dinner (there are choices). Dinner is at the
“buffet”, the “Japanese” restaurant, the “white” restaurant. Desire has
formal names for each of these and they each offer a different experience.
You should try all of them.
The
most formal (and many say best) is the white restaurant (Il Piacere). More
reserved and elegant than the others, it feels special-you feel special.
Japanese (Suki) has never disappointed us, and the buffet (Tentazione) is
where we go if we can’t decide which of the other 2 wins. You’ll find
attentive service, good food, and if you’ve been at Desire for more than a
day, someone you know or recognize at a table nearby.
After dinner, we go back to the lobby bar area for drinks and entertainment.
This area has solo musicians (saxophone, guitar, etc.) or the Desire
entertainment staff to pass the time until the disco opens. The disco has
music, dancing, and a higher-energy level than the lobby bar area. The
playroom behind the disco bar provides a place to conduct those PDA’s in a
more private public place. We
have never passed through those doors and left without a smile on our faces.
If
after all that you still have some energy left, the hot tub will still be
going and there should be enough “socializing” available to please most
people. After that, it’s sleep, breakfast, and do it again.
We
took the private catamaran cruise this time. We liked it a lot and recommend
it. For $120 per person (a little steep-but it is a limited size group), you
and up to six other Desire couples get fed, liquored, and pampered on an
almost new 3-bedroom, 2 bath catamaran for a day (9-5) while sailing over to
Isla Mujeres for sunning, shopping, swimming, and snorkeling. As in
everything at Desire and Hedo, the people make the trip. A bus takes you
from Desire to Bluebay in Cancun. You leave and return from there.
We
went into town again this year for another massage by Claudia. We will
always see Claudia if we can. Her massages are probably unlike any you have
ever had.
Transbeach picked us up 5 minutes early for our trip to the airport and we
were checked in on USA3000 (bound for Baltimore) and shopping in duty free
near our gate within 45 minutes of stepping into the bus at Desire.
We
hope we answered some of your questions. Have fun and say hi if you see us
at either Desire or Hedo or drop us an email.
