Bob & Cindy - November, 2006

Desire (Cancun)

November 10 – 17, 2006

This was our first trip to Desire-Cancun.  This focus of our trip report is on the resort, not on our personal experiences there.  (To all of the wonderful friends we made there, we have such fond memories of you!)

Traveling

No problems getting there.  We flew out of Philadelphia, connecting thru Detroit.  We were very surprised to see very few bags being searched.  We got through security with plenty of time to spare.

No problems once we arrived either.  We were greenlighted through Customs (again, we didn’t see many bags being searched…amazing), and off we went to locate our grand transfer representative.  We had heard many horror stories about what can happen at this point.  Luckily, we knew exactly what/who to look for, so we cautiously proceed down the long row of timeshare agents, cabbies, etc. who were trying to snag unsuspecting tourists.  Eventually we located our rep and were safely onboard the van and on our way to Desire (took less than 15 minutes).

Check-In and Meeting New Friends

We arrived around 4:00 PM and were greeted with a glass of champagne.  Our room wasn’t quite ready, so we walked over to the lobby bar for some cold drinks.  The wait wasn’t that long, and after they delivered us and our luggage to our room, we immediately unpacked (do it now or you’ll never get it done), and made our way over to the pool.  The first people we encountered were friends we had been chatting with online from the Fluffernutters.  After a couple of big hugs and hellos, they pulled us right into the fun and games.  We can’t say enough about the Fluffernutters…they are a great bunch of people to vacation and party with.

The Resort

The resort is immaculate!  After looking through the hurricane damage photos they have in the lobby, were amazed at how much work they have done to rebuild and make improvements to the facility.

The Beach and Palapas

The beach is very nice, but has suffered some erosion during recent storms.  If you are looking for solitude and relaxation, the beachside palapas are absolutely wonderful.  There is really no need to leave them…drink orders are taken on a regular basis and delivered right to you.

The Pool and Games

We really enjoy the soothing music they play during the stretching session and water aerobics in the mornings.  The ECs have great energy and do a fantastic job keeping the guests entertained.  Some games are tame and others more interesting, but they don’t pressure you into participating.  During our trip there were plenty of guests taking part in the poolside games.

The Food and Restaurants

Kudos to Desire for the quality of their dining options.  We loved the breakfast buffet and the poolside grill.  The three restaurants (all air conditioned) were superb as well.  No reservations required.  The food and service at all dining facilities was excellent during our entire trip.

PDAs

PDAs are prohibited anywhere on the beach during the day.  PDA at the pool area during the day is also a no-no.  That did not detract from our fun at all.  There are so many other areas of the resort where PDA is allowed.  The rooftop jacuzzi is where you will see the most action starting in the late afternoon.  Other popular places are the playroom at the disco, the palapas, and other sitting/lounging areas.

Resort Staff and Tipping

We were not solicited for tips one single time during our stay.  We did take care of those who we felt went above and beyond.  We also have to say that the Desire staff work their tails off!

What We Liked

There were no single guys making us uncomfortable.

We felt completely safe.

Exceptional, prompt service.

Designated areas for PDA.

PDA-free pool zone.

Room AC was awesome (nice and quiet).

What We Did Not Like

Beds are too hard.

Towels are too scratchy.

(She) prefers a tub/shower combo.

Montezuma’s Revenge – despite taking precautions.

Having to leave.
