Phil & Kristin - March, 2005
Recently returned 4-01-05
We recently spent a short 4 days at Desire(our first time, been
to Hedo II once).
The short commute time between the airport and the resort makes
this an easy choice for shorter stays which is about all we can manage with
the kids. We arrived at the resort in under an hour from landing in
Cancun and our room was ready when we arrived. We were greeted, served
champagne, checked in and escorted to our room within minutes.
The room-Initially we were a little disappointed with the
appearance of the room(after the luxurious rooms pictured on the website) but
quickly decided that the room was clean, no signs of any bugs and the A/C
worked. We didn't book here for a luxury room anyway. The room
worked out to be just fine and we didn't notice that the beds were unusually
hard as we had read numerous times.
Still early enough in the day to check out the beach and pool
area since this was our first time here. We were pleasantly surprised
that we were able to find seats on the beach and the pool area, even mid-day.
Our first meal at the resort was the pool side lunch and the
food was quite good. Several items to choose from that changed daily and
there was always grilled steak, fish or chicken to choose from as well as an
unending supply of awesome guacamole.
Breakfast and Dinner available Buffet style which is all we
made it to during our short stay. The buffet selection was varied and
even the pickiest eater should be able to find something that they enjoy.
The service at the restaurant was excellent. Everyone that we talked to
that ate at the ala carte restaruants said the food was excellent and highly
recommended them but they take a good 3 hours and we weren't willing to give
up that much time to eat!
The grounds and beach were well maintained and the public
bathrooms by the pool, lobby bar and disco appeared to have "just been
cleaned" each time I used one. That was nice!
We visited the Hot Tub every night and were surprised that it
was so empty considering the resort was full. Not being dancers, we only
visited the Disco once but did notice that it was music we enjoyed and
it was not so loud that you could not carry on a conversation.
Much to our surprise because we usually do not enjoy most of
the *entertainment* provided by EC crews, I cannot end this trip report
without raving about the EC staff at Desire...they truly made this vacation
fun! They were not pushy and did not try to talk you into participating
in events that you didn't want to participate in. In fact, we did not
actively participate in much at all. The rapport between the staff and the
guests was amazing and entertaining to watch. Two EC staff members stand
out in particular and had just arrived at the resort within the last 2 weeks,
Nino and Sal. They were the talk of the resort and had us all laughing
all the time.
I'm sitting here thinking and either I waited too long to write
this or the only thing I can think of to complain about was the drinks.
I had a hard time finding something I liked. Just keep trying new ones
and you'll find something. Ask them to surprise you and make you their
specialty. I can't tell you what that is because each bartender has
several! They try really hard and so I just settle for something I'm
familiar with. The dirty bananas spoiled me.
Go and have a great time. We had so much fun we're hoping
to make it back for short stays in July and September!
