John & Lin - March, 2005

Just a quick report for those who are contemplating your first or return trip to Desire. Here are our observations:

First, we made our first journey to Desire last March. We enjoyed it so much, we booked a year in advance for our return trip. After booking, we learned two things that were alarming. First, the '05 rates were significantly more than '04's. Second, the resort was being "taken over" the time we would be there.

The rates first. The resort's response was that they made improvements - slippers, robes, room service, and an alarm clock. For $90/night more, I was not impressed with their explanation. Here's what we discovered. They did add those items and they meant nothing to us. However, they made major improvements to the resort. Everything is well-maintained. Buildings were improved. Huts were constructed all over the beach. More chairs on the beach. The hot tub area is much, much nicer. Workers everywhere taking care of things. It cost us more money but we were pleased to see that they are spending it.

Takeover next. I panicked a little at the stories of how the "little" people had been bumped to accommodate takeover groups. I sent emails and received assurances that our reservation was secure. Honestly, we were skeptical. When we arrived, our room was ready and directly on the beach as we requested. What a relief. They honored their word.

The rest of the trip was fantastic. They no longer serve lunch in the main dining room. Instead, lunch is served by the pool. We think this is an improvement. The food is simple but delicious. We never waited and the place was booked solid. It was actually fun to eat by the pool out in the open. When the temperature rises, this might be an issue. There is not much wind in that area of the property.

The beach is just perfect. We can't say any more about that. We spent from 6:30 to dark on the beach. The beach and your room's proximity to it is what makes this place our first choice.

The food was very good. No shrimp this year. That was disappointing since they did a great job with it on the grill last year. We hope they add it back tot he menu.

The service is outstanding. See Poncho at the bar. He'll take care of you. The rest of the staff could not do enough for you. Bring a few bucks and discretely tip these people. They deserve it!

Any questions, we'll be happy to share our thoughts.
