This is my first attempt at a trip report.
We visited Desire from Feb. 1st to Feb. 8th. This was our first trip to the resort. We’ve been to Hedo2 twice, Hedo3 once, Grand Lido Negril 6 times and Grand Lido Braco 7 times. Just for a reference point, we live in South Florida and we will go back but had a few thoughts..
The trip was booked through SDC Travel. I wasn’t really impressed with their service. Probably wouldn’t use them again.
We flew to Cancun on Spirit Airlines. We were actually very pleased with how organized they were.
Arriving at the resort was a pleasure. The 20-minute ride from the airport was fantastic compared to the Jamaican rides. We were greeted with champagne and cold towels, were taken to our room with in minutes. While we were at the Front Desk, we were given Desire Wristbands that we were told we had to wear. I’m really not sure why we had to wear them since there aren’t many resorts anywhere near Desire. Either way, neither one of us liked the wristband thing. On the way to room we were given a brief explanation of the resort layout. It was quick and efficient.
I found it interesting that we were not asked if we were there for some special occasion … it was our honeymoon.
Our room was Ocean View, 1511, up stairs with a king sized bed. Next time I’ll request first floor even it’s not a king, the stairs got old.
The room was nice, a little small but hell we were feet away from the water. I’ve heard others complain about the showers. We both thought the shower was great, better than home. A few things that could be improved… the lighting in the room needs improvement. It was definitely dark! There was also a step in the room that we thought was dangerous. In the night after a few drinks, we’re really lucky that we didn’t hurt ourselves. We thought it strange that we shared a balcony with our neighbors but there were only 3 chairs for 2 couples? We ordered room service for dinner one night and couldn’t understand why we couldn’t get a glass of wine with dinner? The French doors on the balcony looked great but there was a quarter inch gap between them that we could see the mosquito’s fighting in through.
The grounds are beautiful! Very well kept, as good if not better than any Lido resort. Ladies be careful, Rhonda brought slut shoes with her for the evenings. There are stairs and hidden steps everywhere.
The beach was gorgeous! Soft white powdery sand with no rocks in the water. We’re more beach than pool people. We did find it strange that we had to sign out our beach towels but what the hell a minor detail.
The service at Desire is better than any Lido resort. The staff was always trying to please our every need. There’s a guy that delivers drinks to the beach that’s the hardest working guy I’ve ever seen. One day I fell a sleep and when I woke up I had a fresh drink next to me!
The mosquitoes are over whelming! I must taste bad to them but Rhonda was eaten alive. We brought bug spray, which I never used, but it didn’t seem to help her.
The Disco was well attended and fun but the dance floor is a raised platform with no railing around it. We tried to dance on it but felt like we might fall off so we danced with a few other couples next to the platform. There was plenty of play in the disco and we liked having the back room so close. The back room at the disco was very good, made us feel like we were at home at one of our favorite clubs.
We only went to the hot tub on night. There was tons of sex & touching going on. It was very sexy but we’re just not hot tub people.
The food was good and seemed to be varied. Our 3rd day, I had fish for dinner and by 2am was extremely sick. It could happen anywhere. Without going into all the details, I’ll just say I was up all night. The next day I went to the front desk and told them my situation. The ladies at the front desk were WONDERFUL. They called a doctor, who showed up within 45 minutes. The doctor gave me a shot that helped right away and some pills and I took it easy for the rest of the day. That evening we ordered room service for dinner and found it strange that Rhonda couldn’t get a glass of wine with dinner. I wanted nothing to drink.
We took a side trip on Sunday to Playa Del Carmen. The cab was $27 each way, seemed fair. The town was very nice. We strolled around the shopping area most of the day. Had lunch at a wonderful little sidewalk Mexican restaurant where the food and people watching was perfect.
Rhonda had noticed that some staff have blue shirts instead of white. We were having an afternoon drink and snacks by the pool and I noticed a guy with a yellow shirt on picking up trash around the pool. I was hoping he was some type of manager because I wanted to tell someone how great the service from the staff had been so I motioned him over. After explaining to him that I was comparing Grand Lido service to Desire service and Desire service was winning hands down, I asked him what area he managed. He told us his name, Miguel Soto, gave us his card and explained that he was the resort General Manager. He told us to email him the next time we came to the resort and he would do something for us since we spent our honeymoon at the resort. It was great seeing the GM pitching in at the front line.
The food at the resort was better than any Hedo and almost as good as any Grand Lido. Definitely more variety than a Grand Lido.
The service was better than any resort we’ve ever been to and I’m kind of a stickler for service, actually I a pain in the ass for service.
The people were a mix a nudist, swingers and a few scared couples. The scared couples were the most interesting to watch. Ok, so you know I have a sense of humor.
Sex … there was sex everywhere in the evening but the days were mollow. The beds on the roof near the Jacuzzi and the beds near the front bar are great! We had and saw sex on all of them. There was sex in the disco. There was sex in the room behind the disco. There was even sex at the bar by the front of the resort!! Both men and women hit on Rhonda and women hit on me. It was a perfect mix of relaxation, activity and party. What a memorable honeymoon!!!!
By the way, they do have Viagra at the resort gift shop even though I brought my own.
I’d make a few changes to operations, praise the staff (all of them) and start planning for major renovations to the infrastructure, which are in the process, because this place is going to be packed year round.
We’ll be back!
