Dave & Shona - December, 2004

Desire, for our second visit was just as outstanding as our first. In fact even better since this time I didn't get electrocuted!!  The renovations to the hot tub are excellent.  Prev  trip report here:  http://www.dennyp.com/desire/reports/2003/dave__shona__1203.htm

Flights, fine, ground transport ok, we had stayed at another resort in Cancun prior to moving to Desire and had originally booked return transport from the Airport, anticipating taking a cab from the airport to Desire however we found it was the same price to cab it directly to the resort so we contacted the travel rep for Best Day who was very helpful and put us in touch with their central reservation desk who was also helpful and we cancelled the return portion of our booking...... wait a minute this story is too good to be true, ... we arrived home to an email confirming the cancellation and confirming we would be charged for it anyway.  Since we had booked online we didn't have the travel coupons with the "fine print" that says changes within 48hrs are non refundable... oddly enough none of the BEST DAY reps mentioned any of this to us at the time.  A flurry of emails back and forth to Best Day did no good so we're out the $18.  (not the end of the world)  however the pen is mightier than something or other so here's my chance to vent... TAKE ANY OF THE RELIABLE GROUND Transport BUT AVOID BEST DAY.  I feel better already!

Now for the good stuff, the resort was spotless and the staff excellent, we had the same room as last yr which was fine for us.  New dock installed was very nice, I guess it will take some time for the fish to return but I did coax a few out with some bread one morning.
Food was very good, we ate at the international restaurant one nite and made reservations for the Mexican but it is outdoor seating and the nite we reserved it was to windy so we opted for the buffet.
2 large groups left just after we arrived so it was fairly quiet, probably about 60% capacity, although it was a great crowd, mixed ages from 30's to 50's with an international flavour of Brits, Canadians, Americans and Dutch. oh ya, even a couple from Edmonton (ola!!!)

Did I mention it was windy... a little to much to be comfortable lying out on the dock but my 2 passions in life are being Nekid and sailing, so with a steady 15-20 kts off the beach I spent a fair amount of time on the 2 brand new 14ft hobie cats.  This was an excellent (IMHO) addition to the watersports area.  They had a new windsurfer as well but I only tried it once and since there was a good chance I was gonna end up in Cuba the way I was going I gave up ... oh well.

Lobby bar is excellent as a gathering spot before dinner or after the disco, it's 24hr and always has some sort of food if you get hungry.  The pizza was excellent, but then at 02:30 after the disco and hot tub we probably would have eaten the @#$%@# out of skunk (or so the phrase goes)  Disco was good with a variety of music (Hedo could take a lesson here)  Playroom seemed to be more active this yr than last... or maybe that was just me ;)
All in all a great resort, less active (read more laid back) then Hedo but makes for a good week at 1/2 the price.  We'll be back.
Cheers
