We just returned from Desire and thought we'd throw give our
impressions of the place since we really enjoyed reading many before we
left.
This was our first trip but we loved the place. We have been
to HII 5 times and HIII once so we had a clue what we wanted in a resort of
this type but there were alot of things we thought Desire had that is
lacking in the others.
Location is great, nothing beats a 20 minute 4-lane ride to
the resort land at noon on the beach at 1:50, very excellent.
The staff is really good. The old joke about Jamaican time or
Mexican time doesn't work here. We found the service to be great and one
nice thing about the bartenders and others is that they always seemed to be
enthusiastic about pleasing the guests, we heard this from many people while
we were there. We were actually asked on our departure what they could do to
improve the resort for our next visit by Mario, never had that happen at
Hedo.
The beach is great but not just beacuse it has a beach. The
nice thing about Desire is that you can actually find a remote spot on the
beach were there will be no one within 30 yards of you all day. The action
is always available at the pool or hottub but sometimes it's nice to sit
quietly without the thump-thump-thump of Prince beating in your head. Plus
you can walk sans clothes about 1/2 mile south and probably a quarter north
because there are no resorts directly adjacent.
The food was good. Having no oxtail was ok with us this
time-lol. The formal restaurant is awesome and by the time you get
done there you are way over fed. Lack of Robert's is missed but the Mexican
fare was a welcome change.
The rooms were very nice. We had garden view but could see
the sun rise over the ocean. They had installed drawers and that was good.
The disco was a lot of fun. We've read reviews that the music
repeted each night etc. but our experience was that the crowd filled the
dance floor when the 70-80-90 stuff was on and cleared when the techno stuff
stayed on too long. The DJ would even cut a song short if he saw that the
crowd left the floor and try something different. He tried to play what the
crowd wanted and not what he liked---Still better than those 45 minute
boomers you hear in Jamaica. The other neat thing about Desire's disco
is that the speakers and lights are over the dance area and the rear of the
room were the couches are located is relatively quiet so people could hold a
conversation-----and there were places to sit very comfortably.
It's billed as a Lifestyle resort and there were plenty of
exciting things to watch but it wasn't really in your face and was not seen
around the pool or beach during the daytime.
Overall we had an awesome time and we are planning a return
before the snow flies again.
We can't think of a single reason to go to Jamaica over
Mexico now. Maybe that will change with our next trip but we'll take our
chances.
We think most people will enjoy the differences.
