Trip Report
Sept. 11 – 18, 2004
This was our first trip to Desire. Even though Ivan interrupted our vacation a bit, we had a great time overall and plan to get back again in January.
Ground Transportation:
We used ExpoCancun and found them outside the terminal without any problems. I was thankful that DennyP had put into our packet the instructions to ignore all the “official looking” people that would ask to see our vouchers. Best advice ever. The bus trip itself took maybe just over half an hour and was pretty uneventful.
Checking in:
We were greeted with friendly smiles, a glass of champagne and cool towels. Since we come out of Portland, OR, we’re just not used to the heat and humidity we were hit with. So the towels were a nice touch. We were checked in pretty quickly and the bellman took us on a quick tour and then escorted us to the room.
The Staff:
We’ve never had a better time on vacation when it comes to the staff. Everyone was friendly. Even the maids would smile and greet us each time we passed by. The bartenders were fabulous (thank you Daniel, Dustin and Arturo!) and each can make a wicked mudslide. Yummy! Too bad I didn’t discover them until the last day of our trip. Oh well, I’ll know better for next time. And Dustin’s muchelatta was pretty awesome as well. Thank you to JJ, Maria, Sajid and Jana for all the fun games and activities. You guys were terrific. And a lot of fun just to watch as well!
The Pool:
Loved the front lobby pool for skinny-dipping in at night after the disco. But we quickly learned that during the day, everyone hangs out at the main pool. The music starts out somewhat calm and heats up throughout the day. What a nice pace – easing us all into the party atmosphere. The activities were lots of fun – the Mr. Desire contest was just too hilarious! We were especially happy to see M win that one and finally take home his much longed for tee shirt.
The Jacuzzi Lounge:
Wow – what a great place to just hang out and relax! We had some of our best times up there. We weathered the beginnings of Hurricane Ivan with K&G up there while David got us dinner (I told you he was an awesome bartender!). And after being evacuated, the first place we came back to on our return was the Jacuzzi. Of course, the pool wasn’t open yet, so we didn’t have too many choices! But again, what a fun place to hang out. Thank you to K&G and M&R for some great ‘cuzzi memories.
The restaurants:
Due to the evacuation from Ivan, we never got to try the specialty restaurants. We’ll remedy that on our next trip. The main dining room was good, not spectacular, but good enough. The grill out at the pool usually had something yummy to munch on and even the sandwiches out at the lobby bar at midnight were a welcome and much needed snack.
The Disco/Playroom:
After reading so much on the boards about the famed playroom, we couldn’t wait to check it out. We did so the first night we were there and had a really great time. We continued what we started when we got back to our room that night. Again thanks to Ivan, we didn’t get to use this as much as we would have liked. But we made the best of it when we could. We even used the playroom that the staff made up for us while at the Blue Bay Getaway and the “Club Desire”. And speaking of “Club Desire”, thank you again to the staff from Desire for getting this set up for us while we were exiled. We had a great time playing sexy Jenga and some weird dice game, where for some reason my boobs were constantly being used as a backboard for dice throwers! No complaints, I had loads of fun that day and that night. Thank you again to M&R for much of that fun.
Etc.:
Thank you again to the entertainment staff, including the DJ, for helping us all just have some fun. The hurricane may have moved our location for a few days, but we learned to make the best of a bad situation. And the bartenders, DJ and entertainment staff had a lot to do with our good time on Tuesday. Once we got back to Desire on Wednesday, we got right back into having as much fun as possible in the few days we had left on our vacation. Karaoke night on Saturday when we got in was great – obviously I luv2sing! I know that most people hate karaoke nights, so I’m just glad that the resort offers it once a week for the ones like me.
Special thank you’s:
To J – a lovely lady with a lovely voice. You were special for both of us. To K&G for sitting in the wind and rain with us in the Jacuzzi Sunday night. And to B&C, M&R and M&C for all the fun stories while stuck in the Blue Bay with nothing to do and nowhere to go. (Why does my butt hurt? And what would Frenchy do?) And again to M&R for all the fun, sensual times, you two are the best. Hopefully we’ll all stay in touch and get back together for a reunion at the resort someday. We are all official members of the “I Got Blown By Ivan” club and damned proud of it!
