Dean & Gale - October, 2004
Desire 10-18 thru 10-23,2004
This was our second trip to Desire and we had a great time with a lot of
hassels.
We booked directly with Desire back in March of 04. We were told that Saturday
10-17 was not available and that was ok. We booked for ourselves and another
couple. In mid July we reconfirmed and were told that we had no reservations
because we could not find our confirmation numbers. The next day when (after
numerous e-mails) we called the local number (the toll free rings with no
answer) we gave them the confirmation number for ourselves and miraculously
our reservation was found but not for the other couple. After a long fight
they were confimed again. One week b4 departure we again confirmed and were
assured that there was no problem.
Arrived Cancun 10-17 and stayed in town. While shopping our cell phone rang
and it was Desire wanting to know if we were really coming. Told them both
couples were already in town and would check in Sunday AM. They also had our
friends reservation screwed up again!
Arrived early am at Desire to total chaos. Front desk had no idea what to do
with us or what to do about rooms. Told us ok to check in but our room would
not be available until 3 pm. No problem, we went to the beach. At 3 pm lobby
was a total disaster with more people coming in to find that the staff had no
idea what to do with them. They finally gave us a room around 4. It was a
closet with a bed (room 2013), totally unacceptable with one window and no
view. They promised to move us the next day after 3 pm.
Monday 10-18. Again total chaos in lobby. If i had not camped out at the
front desk we would have been stuck in 2013. Finally moved again to 2212 ocean
front second floor ( very nice). Everyone we went with or met had similar
hassels.
This entire problem was caused by the beautiful people party who not only
took over the hotel for the week prior but were allowed to extend and pitch a
fit about not allowing anyone other than themselves to be there. The resort
lost control and allowed the group to dictate to them how to run things. This
resulted in the room problems and the subsequent chaos in the lobby. The
Beautiful People are not so Beautiful in attitude. The staff and EC's all
agreed that it was the worst week ever.
If the Resort expects to continue to exist they need to run their business
and not allow any group to tell them how and what to do. We were very
displeased and would have to seriously re-consider ever going back.
This is a great Resort but it,s no Gran Lido or Hedo. The lack of attitude
and projected price increases for 2005 will make this less of a choice. Right
now it is a bargain compared to Super Clubs and you expect a little less for
your money. Why would We want to pay the same and still get less. New
TV's,Sports Bars,Robes and slippers will never make it the same.
On the positive side the rest of the week was unevetful. The indoor specialty
restaurant was superb, the outside Mexican restaurant was ho hum and the
service was extremely slow, the buffet restaurant was actually very good. If
you have been before the rooms have not changed except that they have install
drawers in the closets of the rooms.Beds are still too hard for my liking and
the shower still gets the floor wet. Rooms are clean and safe. Beach was raked
every morning, and still construction in progress to replace the dock and
tower due to damage from storms. The Jacuzzi Lounge has been redone and is very
nice.
This resort has real potential and i hope they don't price most of us out.
