Trip Report – Desire Halloween Trip 2003

Where do I begin?  I’ll start by saying that our seven-day stay at Desire, Cancun was the best vacation we’ve been on.  We departed the Oakland, California airport on Sunday October  26th at 11:30 PM on Suntrips (Good deal). We arrived at Cancun about 6:30AM the following morning.  We by-passed all the people trying to sell us stuff and went right to the taxi area where there was a man holding a Desire sign.  There was a cab driver waiting for us at the curb that promptly whisked us away south on Hwy 307 towards the resort, (20 minutes).  Previous reports are correct, cross the highway at the John Deere tractor sign.  We drove down the long road towards the ocean slowing for many topos (Spanish for speed bumps).  When we arrived we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a cool towel.  The lobby is very clean and pretty.  After checking in we were taken to our room. The rooms are not 5 star, but very nice by our standards.  I’m sure the sliding closet door will be fixed soon.  The bidet leaked, but was fixed after I placed a call to the desk, can’t have a leaky bidet.  I tested it and got squirted in the face with high velocity bidet water (oral sex by proxy).  We didn’t hang around to unpack, instead we went to do what we came for, and it was GOOD.

The grounds are very well kept; there was a lot of staff that were dedicated to keeping the resort nice.  They get an A+ for that. The beach was very nice. As with other resorts there were beach rakers removing the ocean flotsam every morning and hauling it away.  The main pool area was also very nice.  The water temperature was pleasant enough to spend the entire day in if you chose.  Next to the pool is a snack area and bar with food available all day.  I heard some complaints about not enough bartenders, but think about it, where in your town can you walk up to a busy bar on a Friday or Saturday night and get served immediately, unless you have breasts.  Breasts tend to be the universal fast-drink ticket. We never had a problem getting a drink in a timely manner and this was a sold out week.  We found the dining are and buffet to meet all our needs.  I heard a few “picky eater” types making a fuss about the food, but we found it to be just fine.  After spending the morning and afternoon socializing in the pool we made the short journey up the stairs (Rod counted the steps, 30 or 40) to the hot tub, bar and napping pods.  What a view. The swim-up tub looks over the main pool and ocean, what a beautiful view. We nicknamed the tub the “heavy petting pond” and there was plenty of that, (thank-you ladies, you made me happy and Carole thanks you boys).  For those who needed a nap there were seven beds with white canopies for your resting pleasure.  Many people must have been tired, they we full on several occasions.   After socializing in the hot tub most people left and got ready for dinner.  After dinner there was some down time, most couples met at the large bar near the lobby, then it was off to the disco.  The disco has three poles for your exotic dancing pleasure, there were some pros there our week.  Behind the bar at the disco is a room for those who need to rest and take naps, yum-yum.  After about an hour of the disco we made our way back to the rooftop hot tub for more adult socializing.  We apologize to the couple from Indiana; we almost had an accident doing body shots. Thank-you Desire staff for putting up the glass.

Carole and I have been to two other Caribbean resorts over the past two years.  Each of those are fine and the one resort in Jamaica we’ve considered our home away from home.  The other resort in Cancun didn’t have the type of activity we were looking for, but it’s fine for some.

In closing I’ll say that Desire gets an A grade from us.  We were extremely happy with the facility, food, staff, oh ya, the entertainment staff was premium, and most of all the wonderful nice people we met there.  The price is reasonable, getting there is easy, and there are many side excursions outside the resort that are safe to visit.   Desire is also user friendly for those who party and socialize at different levels. Disneyland is not the happiest place on earth, The Desire Resort and Spa is.
