“Desire Resort & Spa” Trip Report – July 2003
~ Susan & Jeff (EssEnJay)
We’re back…although we would much rather be laying on the beach at Desire! As most of you know, we were very apprehensive about our trip to Desire. We asked just about everyone who had been there already what their opinion was of the resort. We received plenty of good and bad reports. Well, we can “honestly” say that we are thrilled that we decided to go ahead with our plans to stay at Desire. It was fabulous!
The resort itself is beautiful, rooms are gorgeous (at least the Jacuzzi & Passion Suites as they are what we stayed in two nights each), the staff was extremely accommodating and friendly, the pool/beach were perfect, the disco and roof top Jacuzzi Lounge were the H-O-T spots, and the guest were wonderfully fun and sexy! We arrived on Wed not knowing a sole. There were approx. 25-30 couples at that time which increased to 60-70 couples by the weekend. By the time we departed, we knew all 70 couples by their first name. The atmosphere promotes an erotic yet relaxed, non-pushy and friendly place for all. The activities at the pool are a great ice breaker to meet people but be sure to head up to the Jacuzzi Lounge around 5PM for a before dinner drink (wink, wink).
Although, we would say that the positives far out way the negatives at Desire, it would be in the resorts best interest to fix a few things that appear to be common issues of disappointment among guests. Please keep in mind that “everyone” we met would go back regardless though. The area we are referring to are primarily the Buffet. The poolside grill and restaurant are wonderful but the Buffet (especially on day two, three, four,…) needs some revamping. The other area would be the Disco. The entertainment committee, though I am sure is exhausted from a full days work already, could use some help here. Being that the resort attracts just about all walks of life from swingers, nudist, Bi ladies and men, to the every day straight couple, it is difficult to distinguish one from another at times. As a courtesy to all, they could consider different theme nights such as Strip Tease (nudists), Swing Dance (for US), and Ladies Night (for ME!). I am sure that it would be a bit different during a stay hosted by a Lifestyle type group though.
TIPS: 1 – Dbl check that your transfers are line up and exactly who and “where” you will meet them. We had to pay $50 extra for a one-way trip to the resort. 2- Don’t let the ride to the resort and the entrance scare you. Once you get to the Lobby, it is beautiful. 3- Book any Spa features early. Popular times book quickly. 4- Make dinner reservations early A.M. for 2,4,6, etc. people. They book up fast and are not accommodating when adding people to your party. Don’t know why this is since we were told no but sat at a table with two empty chairs???? 5- Leave beach towels at home. They have plenty of clean large towels everywhere. 6- Bring pool floats and ask Caesar and Mario to blow them up with the air compressor by the poolside grill. 7- If planning a trip by Taxi bring lots of $$$. Cancun is $60 RT and Playa Del Carmen is $50 RT. 8- Don’t worry about getting to the Disco early. It doesn’t start hopping until 11PM. When done, RUN to the Jacuzzi Lounge. It is the best! 9- In our opinion the best buildings are Ocean Views 11,15,16,20,22 & 25. Bldg 10 is also Ocean View, overlooks the pool and has the Jacuzzi Lounge on the roof. It has unique patios with privacy doors too. Best Garden View buildings are 12, 13 , 14 (close to pool) and maybe 18, 19, 21 and 24 (close to lobby). 10 – Each room has a refrigerator, TV and hair dryer. Closets and storage are small but you don’t need much anyway. If you can afford it, splurge and get the Jacuzzi or Passion Suite. They are gorgeous. However, if you are like us, you will not spend much time in the room anyway. We did find a way to make use of it in the early A.M. hours though. (wink, wink). The Passion Suite is a great party room in the event of rain too!
We say GO, GO, GO to Desire Resort & Spa! You will not regret it.
