Just got back last night from Cancun.  We had the worst weather while we where there but we were not there for sun and fun. (Not maybe the worstbut, not the greatest.)  Well we did have some fun but that was only in our hotel room :).  We went, as you know to check out Desire.  It was cold and rainy but we still persevered. (Spent extra money fo an air conditioned carthere was $10.00 wasted!!!)

We spent about an hour at Desire and were shown around the resort by the publicity person.  He was very young and not as forceful or as clear (seemed not to know a lot about Lifestyles and what to expect) as I was hoping he would be. I was able to take a few pics until a woman showed up and told us to stop.  There is new construction going on (has been happening while the resort has been occupied by guests!! That would have made for a nice vacation, eh???)  and was not as far along as I thought it should be for an opening in one month.  He told us that a lot of the help has not been told what is going on and that in a few weeks they might be transferred to other resorts and that new help will be put in place.  One thing he did say was the roof top intimate Jacuzzi / bar would be staffed by a woman.hmm??? (Not sure why this will be making a difference)

I do have a hotel/resort work background and from this viewpoint I have made some personal views.

POSITIVES:

Beautiful grounds

Very nice rooms (The room pictured on the new Desire website is not what we saw as the standard room offered (see Daves picture he got)wonder if that will be the Deluxe Jacuzzi room???)

New A/C

Great small Disco with possible play room along side.

Fantastic beach

Nice small pools did not see hot tubs though

2-3 bars that looked very open and nice (We did not see any swim up barsnor a way to create any without totally remodeling a pool)

If it takes you more than 20 minutes to get there from the airport maybe you should have gotten a ride instead of walking :) turn the steering wheel 6 times then turn off the engine!!!! Straight roads NO RIDE FROM HELL INVOLVED!!!! (As of our visitno decision had been made on airport transfers that our guide was aware ofif guest have to rent carsthey will need LOTS more parkingor give them info on taxi rides)

Nice high roofed restaurant. (He told us they were shutting down for about 2 weeks to finish the renovations and the restaurant was one of the things to be remodeled)

Has the feeling of being more intimate than Hedo.

The Mexican people seem to be a kinder gentler people than the MO-bays.

WORRIES:

Came away with the feeling that they did not understand what they were getting into.

Lots of new staff to me means a total unknown.  Scary

I doubt that the new construction will be done in time.

I think it will either be a shock or disaster opening, unless "Lifestyles Travel" goes down ahead of time and takes charge of the resort to make sure it's what we expect.

To summarize I have total faith in "Lifestyles" and I came away with very little confidence in Desire.  It has the potential of being the top fun resort of this venue.

88 USD pp/pn for 5 nights Damn that is tempting.  If it was offered past the opening and I could hear about the staff and the food (any food is better than Hedo's)

If they did so they could possible fill up rather quickly for some time in advance.  Then again Lido is a sure thing.  What can I say?

Here are the pics that I was able to take.

Good Luck
