For those wanting to know the "Real Truth about Desire"..lol...here you go:
I always thought that things like the showers at hedo2 were bad, but here is one for you. My wife lost weight while at Desire because there was really nothing to eat..except for the last few days we were there..ie Breakfast..Anyway, here is the Gospel according to Dave
Well, after reading some of the trip reports on other sites..I guess most of the people that go dont expect all "all-inclusives" to be the same. We do. We have been to a few, in multiple locations (islands) to include both Hedo's and well, Desire still has tons of growing pains.
1. Number One issue, "Food". Desire caters to Americans and Canadians. I would suggest that they cook for those groups. They dont..period. And as far as dress code..sexy would be nice for dinner, otherwise..who cares.
2. Hot Tub , enough said. The heater to my pool at home is larger than theirs and they need to look at one that feeds it with gas or just leave the damn thing on 24/7.
3. Entertainment Staff, Still learning..but part of their problem is that they dont get much participation (especially after dinner)..not like going to Dave's..(for those in the know)..could get better..
4. Bar - Not sure if anyone noticed, but they dont have a great selection of stuff. Actually we have more at home. Again, look at who is coming..Serving drinks on the beach is a plus have to admit..A bit minus is "no swimup bar". At H2, this is the "hub" of all activity. (Oh and stay open a lot longer..pls)
5. Who do you want? The resort will have to make up its mind as to who they are catering too or maybe not. Dont say you are looking for swingers and not really be a swingers resort, ie the type of activities. Nudist dont swing but swingers are nudist..(ummmm)..anyway..
6. TV. Ok, if you are going to provide it..make all the channels in English. And one critical thing..Americans have to have ESPN, HBO (which they had), Scifi and CNN..other than that, who cares. Oh, and put in a CD player.
7. Pool Grill. I ate there a few times and it was like a savage land. Someone in the forums said they did not want to see any ding-dongs, thats not a problem, what I dont like is that people were very very rude..yep..(you know who you were and are)
8. Gift Store. Expand
9. Staff. Ok, this is tough. There were two kinds of staff people there. Those that cared and those that pretended to care. An example of one that cared (Alex, at the hot tub). I dont believe in tipping at an all-inclusive, thats why I go, but I tipped him (and Edgar). Alex more so because he broke the mold and should be working in the States where he can make more than 5.30 /hr. Anyway, I made sure to give him enough to allow him to take a few days off. Why?..it wasnt because he was busting his butt everynite, it wasnt because he knew (after two days) that my wife liked Appleton Rum and Diet Coke, it was simply that we actually carried on conversations with him inwhich we felt that he truly liked being there and helping people. On the other hand, there was the beach grill cooks. If you dont like your job, fake it with a smile and dont let others see it. I did and it only took once. (Oh I tipped the lady who cleaned my room, just because of the great towel designs..LOL)
10. People (also in two types) At Hedo2 (not to try and compare), when you walk past someone and speak, you normally, atleast get a reply..not the case there. I think, there were too many (fake) perfect people for me and mines. Too my suprise, CANADIANS ... hopefully those that we met are reading this, you have an open invitation to visit Tampa anytime and bunk with us. But hey, not just the Canadians..lol...but we just happen to meet some Canadians that were great people..but I have to admit..we have been to a few resorts where thats been the case..ummm..whats in the water up there.
FINALLY (long winded) You cant go to Desire once and come back with an opinion (well you can but it will be wrong). As an example, we had a beach room and slept with the doors open, I could hear the ways crashing off the reef..priceless..
We will give it a year maybe two and go back..This place could become the Mexican Hedo..whether they are trying to or not..
Now thats not tooooo bad..hey, I did not even mention the Disco's music..(did I..wink)...
