Desire Pearl 5/10-5/17/12
We have been to both Hedo's & Desire's before several times, this was
our first trip to Pearl. Our stay overlapped the Bubbly Bears, which
seemed like a nice mellow group of people.
We LOVED Pearl. We got a 'poolview' room which was Perfect! Steps from
the pool, feet from the beach with a fantastic view (see pix from our
slider). Comfy bed, stocked frig, plenty of closet & drawer room,
enough light, table & chairs outside on porch. Maid kept taking our
comforter, had to call a couple nites to get another - no big deal. Our
friends had a suite with big living room 2 full baths & their own hot
tub, I liked our room better.
Resort had only been open 5 weeks, there is room for some improvement.
First off PLEASE get rid of the 'pond' by the lobby that attracts all
the bugs, it isn't appealing & a waste of space. Fill it in & add
lounge chairs, beds a place to visit after dinner or watch/listen to
some nighttime entertainment. Fix some of the equip in gym, great spa &
lockers. The staff was wonderful, especially Charlie which we new from
Desire RM - Nice guy. Waiters really went out of their way. Don't
bother with the buffet we tried it a couple times & ended back at the
beach restaurant. Fab guac & chili nachos, grilled cheese sandwiches
and try the catch of the day @ dinner (not on menu). It is a little
windy @ night sitting outside but it keeps the bugs away. Weather was
low 80's the whole trip, rained 1 day for a few hours but still warm -
resort set out golf umbrellas (nice touch). Tipping was aloud
everywhere which is different for us with previous Superclub trips.
Disco is small but people don't stay there much after midnight everyone
goes to the hot tub. Big, nice hot tub with swim up bar but be careful
entering & exiting use one of the 2 sets of stairs. We enjoyed the
nightly entertainment & participated in all the themes.
Its about 1.5 mile walk on the beach to Puerto Moreales (we didnt get
any sand flee bites). The town is cute, lots of shops to get souvenirs
(Silver, vanilla, tequila, Tshirts..) Pharmacy, general store, fishing
trips, massage, bars, ice cream, internet cafe & so on. I heard cab
ride was $7 one way, but I suggest walking the beach its safe & fun to
see the local's & villas.
We did the Selvatica 1/2 day excursion I found online. It was $140pp
included 12 zip lines, 7 aerial bridges (see more on that), razor/raptor
(quads) trip & swim in cenote. First off I'm afraid of heights but
don't mind doing zip lines but not comfortable. I viewed this trip on
you tube prior to going, the "Bridges of Death" were not represented
correctly. #2 bridge horrifying & they wont let you turn back even
after 20 mins on the platform refusing to cross. We all made it,
several people fell but secured to safety rope. I couldn't wait for
that part to be over! The trail rides could have been longer but it was
perfect because today was the 1 day of rain so we had some great mud &
no dust. For $60 we bought the video, pictures & a great book they made
w/our pictures throughout it.
We met people from all over, all shapes & sizes from all walks of life.
It was romantic, relaxing & very enjoyable. We will return.
