Rick & Jeanine - January, 2008

We wanted to share our experience and overall opinion of our vacation at Desire Cabo since we have used them in the past and found them helpful.

Our trip was only for 5 nights.  We arrived on a Sunday, Jan. 13th.  The flight on American was uneventful and on time.  We breezed right through customs and immigrations and headed outside.  IMPORTANT POINT # 1....Do not talk or look at anyone once you get through customs until you get outside the arrival side of the airport, and I mean outside in the sunshine under the canopy.  Anyone inside the building is selling time shares and they WILL lie to you and tell you anything they think you want to hear to get you to come with them and listen to them.  ALL the transportation people (every one of them including private taxi's) are outside and finding your company will be relatively easy as they all are either holding signs or wearing company shirts.  We used EPIC and they were wearing maroon shirts with gold lettering...again, very easy to spot.

Our transport to the resort with EPIC wasn't so good.  After waiting 15 minutes for a van, the one that finally pulled up was full.  They made arrangements with another van (more like a airport shuttle van service) to take us to Desire.  After cramming us in like sardines, we waiting 35 minutes for a driver who finally showed up and proceeded to drop everyone off first even though we drove past Desire (and we literally drove past the resort).  We went from Downtown, all the way to the Hilton and back......2 hours after leaving the airport, we finally arrived at Desire.  The only reason we can think of as to why they choose to drive by the resort was because we were actually a customer of EPIC and they were probably doing them a favor since the first van was full.  Regardless, it was very frustrating.

Arrival and Check In was great.  You can't ask for more friendly service.  They will ask for a CC to have on file so you don't have to carry ANY cash with you at all, ever...not even in the gift shop.  You can charge any Spa services, Gift Shop items (or any extra's you desire) to you room.  Its was nice actually.

We checked into our room (# 220) and immediately headed to the pool (the room is nice, and the pictures do enough justice).  I won't go into detail other that to say that we've read other reports where complaints were made because there is no bathroom door.  That is not the case.  Note that the shower door doubles as a bathroom door.  The safe is roomy and easy to use and the fridge is stocked with water, soda's and beer.

The grounds are very nice.  For a relatively small resort, they make it feel much bigger than it actually is.  The pool is heated to close to 90 degrees, so no matter what the weather, you can swim anytime.  The Hot Tub is huge and well maintained.  The Fire Pits all over are (or were) such a nice addition.  Not only do they look gorgeous, they made the chilly nights in Jan. tolerable.

The food was great!  Good variety and presentation.  We especially like Suki (the Japanese/Hibachi grill), but all were great.  Try everything....if you don't like it, you can always try again!  They will also work with you to make just about anything you want, even if its not on the menu, as long as its reasonable.  The wait staff all wear hairnets & the cooks all wear hairnets and masks so never for a second do you get the impression that they don't take every precaution to make sure the food is safe, clean and handled and prepared properly.

The staff was so personable, friendly and attentive.  From Roscio, Jackie, Alex & Heather (the newbie) on the entertainment crew to Martin at the bar and Erica at (and around) the pool bar, we couldn't have expected anymore.  We didn't tip until the last day, so anyone that went out of their way, didn't do so because of money.  We took care of those who took care of us....and they more than deserved it!  There was one girl that was our waitress every morning at breakfast whose name we can't quite remember (or pronounce since it had too many vowels and an "X"), but she very well might have been the friendly, most attentive waitress we have ever met!  If you somehow read this, thank you all for everything!

Entertainment was adequate (although we missed the live music on Friday because we left, which was disappointing).   The only "complaint" we had (and its nothing major) was we all needed something to do during that down time after the hot tub and before the disco.  That's the one and only thing Hedonism has that is better than Desire....the Piano Bar!  If they could somehow fill that 8pm to 10 or 11pm gap with something....Perfection would be a fun, piano bar outside near the bar in the garden.  Imagine sitting around the fire singing along to the piano while watching the stars.  It wouldn't get a whole lot better than that (with clothes on anyway...and hey, its Desire, so even those are optional!).

Anyway, the attention to detail was great...from the glass of champagne at check in to the cleanliness of the wait staff and cooks to the way they clean the beach and maintain the gardens and grass....even the music around the pool was fantastic!!

We wouldn't change much if given the opportunity, and we hope they don't either.  Maybe a couple additions here or there, but that's about it.  We have pictures, but nothing you probably haven't seen already...but if you want to see them, or if you have any questions, please just shoot an email and we'll be happy to share.
